With a 2" filter, you may be ok. Definitely not a 3" filter.
You can use a K&N drop base. They come in 2 drops. The piece is the same, just different cuts on the throat. Buy both and return the other.
With the drop base, you'll actually have to use a 3" filter, because otherwise the carb will suck the lid right down on it, choking the engine and denting the lid with the fuel vents.
My suggestion would be to get a Ford 14" air cleaner assembly (and a 427 sticker while you're at it  ), ditch the stock 2" filter and use a 3", and get a K&N drop base.
