Now raise the tire pressure back to what it was before and take another drive.

When trying to diagnose a problem, try not to make more than 1 change at a time. In this case, was the problem the tires on the wrong side? Or the pressure too high? You don't know.

As for tire pressure, 22psi is a good place to start. With the tires hot, use an infrared thermometer to check tread temps. Check inside, middle, and outside. Temps should be slightly higher on the inside than the outside on the front, and with IRS. A solid axle should have even temps across the width of the tread. You don't really care what the temp is, as long as it follows the correct pattern.

... and then drive as quickly as you can, in reverse, and see if the wandering problem reappears. That will tell you if the directional issue was the problem all along.

No I have played with tire pressures before, it was the tires not mounted correctly . I will however, take temp readings, as Bobcowan suggest. I like that seams like sound advise.
