Default H.B. Halicki

David - I saw it as well - with his widow narrating, right ? Seems he was killed in a freak accident during the filming of "The Junkman" I believe...Great stuff on DVD...and the original Eleanor WAS in fact a bone stock '73 yellow Mustang that they just named "Eleanor"...

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...s=dvd&n=507846

REAL 1:

First, I ain't your friend a-hole. Second, I didn't want a CSX, could have bought one but didn't want to give that jerk CS my hard earned $$, for a replica...Third, your persistance in giving everyone here your version of the "facts" is what is getting old, thus my comment...We've all heard it all before and frankly, it's getting very old. As far as my "uncalled for snide scarstic comment " is concerned, sorry I upest your fragile little ego, I surely wouldn't want to do that...

Ron - nice pic...Did you hear how Halicki died ?? Seems they were going to knock over a huge 100 ft tall water tower. One of the cables supporting the tower failed, snapped around, took out a telephone pole which landed on top of him - killed instantly...Terrible tragedy. He was a great film maker and would for sure have made some great action pics if he were still alive today...

Lightbulb Aren't Those Unfinished Mustangs in Shelby's Goodyear Wherehouse?

You'd think that if Shelby had unfinnished Mustangs just laying around, Rick Kopec would have known about it. Maybe I should go by McCluskey's place and see if he's working on anything old/new.

Evan,

The Elanors are being made by Sanderson Sales and Marketing, not SAI.
By the way, you're really begining to sound like Johnnie Cochran!

(Have you ever been to a Barrett Jackson Auction, and did you buy anything?)

STG - I SECOND THAT MOTION !

Also, is Sanderson for REAL ( ) with those prices ???? Absolute joke if you ask me...And butt ugly for that matter. The fact that Shelby is allowing his name to be associated with that car is a testament to his lack of integrity.

Talking They Will Sell 'Em All at Barrett Jackson!

Got to hand it to the guys at BJ. Nobody can get more people with more money who know less about cars together in one room at the same time.

Guys;

Thanks for the info on Eleanor.....Argo1 you and I saw the same show with his widow doing most of the narrating....Also correct about freak accident with the water tower-cables-power pole....

I do not see why some "remakes of a 67 Fastback" would be worth 6 figures.....The new Eleanor is o-k,but that's all.... I would think an original 67 GT-500 would be worth more as is (original) rather than modified like Eleanor, but I like originality when it comes to Shelby GT's.....

Anyone can take a 67 fastback and with enough money and know-how make a copy of Eleanor, heck I did it with my 65 Fastback, turned it into a 65 GT-350,but is was a plane jane 2+2 fastback with no real collector value or history......

As for CS having some "left over" cars in a wharehouse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!well just check with Kevin Marti or his site,he has all the vin info from Ford from a very long time back and could possibly verify how many and what type cars were actually shipped to CS back then.....As for myself,I believe you would have a better chance of seeing God at K-Mart,than seeing 67 Mustangs left over in a wharehouse that CS "just forgot about" and now suddenly remembered he had. Kinda like the left over Cobras.......

Right now there are a lot of people looking for 67 Fastbacks to turn into Eleanors and that's o-k with me if that is what they like, but to put them in the SAAC registry is ridiculous and just down grades the cars in the registry already....

Stan; My feeling exactly about Barret-Jackson.......

BTW: If anyone is looking, a good friend has a 67 Fastback that has been completely restored to original specs a few years ago and is beautiful, and for the right price he surely would sell it,and I know of another 67 Fastback that needs total restoration and can be had for a couple of thousand bucks right now but it is "rough".

Thumbs up Elanor & Other Rantings

As an initial matter, I must agree with others that I like Elanor. Would I pay 120-150k for it? Absolutely no way in hell. I would think that you could build your own for 1/3 of that. And I also agree with Computerworks, they most certainly do not belong in the registry. But that being said, I think they are a nice looking car.

As for the other topic that has developed in this thread (Real 1 bashing), although it is entertaining to read and I know some of you can't resist b/c he in good fun makes himself an easy target, I feel the need to defend the Real 1 somewhat (although he certainly does not need my help). This is not directed at anyone in particular, I'm just telling you my experience after being on CC for a while, so don't take my head off.

These are the facts:

1. I have been on CC for apx. 2 years (either lurking or as a member) and have never heard Evan say or imply that he is better than anyone else b/c he owns a CSX or that CSX is a better car then brand x replica. If I am wrong, please direct me to the post. In fact, I think he has acknowledged that other replicas might be better designed cars racing (after all, the CSX is the exact same design as was used in the 60s and we know technology has improved). In the ERA v. SPF thread I think we saw Evan extolling the virtues of both ERAs and SPFs.

2. When others make claims about the superiority about x, y or z replica to CSXs, he merely asks for support or proof for such statements- What's wrong with that? If you aren't prepared to back up your claims with evidence, maybe you shouldn't be making such claims.

3. The CSX is probably the most exacting replica of the original on the market (with the exception of KMP- which is really a prenatal CSX). And CSXs are replicas, as Evan has admitted on numerous occasions.

4. CSXs- although not original Cobras- are technically the only real Cobras being made- they are made by CSI and are the only cars legally allowed to be called Cobras. So, yes Evan is correct, he owns a real Cobra- but not an original Cobra. Is having a CSX badge worth paying the extra $$ to you? If you bought a CSX, obviously so- but that doesn't make you a bad person . If you didn't buya CSX badge maybe it wasn't worth it to you, you had moral problems with CS, didn't have the $$ or whatever- either way it doesn't matter. Get what you want, enjoy it and let others do the same.

5. I've never heard Evan launch into a lecture about "the facts" of CSX cars absent provocation.

6. Is Evan a little anal about originality? Given the discussion about rivots- Assolutely, but so what, that is one part of this hobby that he happens to be very interested in. For others, it may be having 650 hp and flogging their car around a track- to each his own.

7. This is just a hobby. Lighten up.

Well I think that about does it. Now I'll put on my fire suit.

Chaplin

Ditto.

As far as the Eleanor Mustang @ a going rate of six figures-- don't think there are many out there who would turn one down
no matter who endorsed it.

Evan's always been upfront--don't think I've ever heard the man "bad mouth " anyone here or their car-- only defend what is in his right to say he has a "real" Cobra, produced by SAI, never ever said it was " original" that I can recall.

In support of Evan,

I have never read a post that indicated his car was "superior" to anybody elses. Like has been said, he just "stating the facts".

To call these Eleanor cars a "Shelby" is really stretching the truth. To call a CSX Cobra a "Shelby" is 100% accurate, thats the FACTS of the matter.

I'll drive my replica Cobra with pride and I KNOW I will love it. And I'll admire the CSX cars from a distance and KNOW they are the "standard" many of us with replicas shoot for. INCLUDING the rivet count!

Default From the land of "Gone...

....Toby was from the area South of Buffalo (Dunkirk/Fredonia). When he was planing "Gone II" the town where the big gag was planned (Tonawanda, NY) made him jump through hoops and put mucho insurance on everything to do the smokestack stunt. That he was the only one hurt (I guess killed qualifies as HURT) is very ironic.
He had bought up a buttload of old police cars for the stunt, he was going to beat the carnage of the "Blues Brothers" as regards trashing used police cars. Didn't work out that way. Stack fell before it wa supposed to and went several degrees out of plan. Fell on a power line and pulled down a power pole. Said pole kadonked Tony right upside the head. Big ouch.

Last I knew the family was still fighting over his estate, he had a huge collection of toys and auto collectibles. First and second wives, brothers and parents were all in a p!ssing match over the stuff. There was a big auction a couple years ago that sold off a lot of the stuff.

Today they would do this on a computer. As example, Jim Carreys latest movie "Bruce Almighty" was filmed in Buffalo and Niagara Falls....Jim NEVER showed in town, all his exterior scenes will be done via computer to put him in the shot. They did truck a Saleen S7 into town for pictures 'though. I seem to remember the vanity palte was "Almighty"

Chaplin: Nobody's looking to take anyone's head off, and I'm sure that Evan will indeed have something to say to my posts; because that IS what your referring to right ? My bone to pick is not with you.

You are correct, this is JUST a hobby. But realize that some people take their "hobbies" a bit more seriously than others...The CARS are our respective avocations, and they are just that- CARS. They all have their different characteristics, some good and some bad. Some of those attributes that are in fact "bad", are the reason why we love them so. I have never said anything negative about an SAI Cobra, I think they are goregous and have said so many times.

What I do have a problem with are those that go out of their way to make sure the rest of us know that their CAR is made by CS, ie. what Evan chooses as his signature line, and "just the facts". I find it obnoxious, self absorbed and contrary to everything a "hobby" is supposed to be about. It's about the CARS. Who cares WHO makes them, we all love them for our own reasons. Some love them for no other reason but to say it is REAL, and that is where I find fault.

Next time you have something to say to me, do me the favor of directing it TO ME and not under the guise of a "suggestion"...

Oh yeah, one other thing - the ORIGINAL Cobra's were made to RACE were they not ?? So I guess those who risked their lives racing them, creating the legend that we all love - were just out on the track flogging them...

My esteemed Cobra brothers,

I am going to get a bit personal here , I will probably regret it .
I was adopted as a child ,and while i took the family name,my sister would occasionaly take the opourtunity to re,mind me "she" was the "real one" it was not that big of a deal, but the establishment of provenance or pedigree has never meant much to me since.

Mr. Shelby has something we dont ; his last name is SHELBY!
i doubt he turned a lot of wrenches in "65" or added much more to those banal chryslers in the 80's?(saac?)His name is legand and that legand has purchace. MR. Shelby has an american right to exploit his own good fortune as far as he wants to stretch it.He might even wish he could have a couple "do-overs",Who dosn't?

Real one ........nobody likes to have their pedigree ( percieved by themselves or others) slapped up in their face regularly , you have to expect you are ruffling feathers ,not with your car but with your constant pronouncement of pedigree, especially with regard to someone elses pride and joy. If that is your intention then "take your lumps"

btw Iwould LOVE to have a "real one "

thanks for listening Karl

I hate to hijack this thred back to cobra talk, but did anyone catch the quoted "top speed" of the 427 S/C in the Shelby article? 121 mph.. I think the guy forgot to take out the 5,000 rpm rev chip out of the MSD box.. The 289 FIA car was noted at 140.

Scobrac,

Apologies for the digression , just didnt see the reason for all the woofing.

I did watch that "cobra" piece on the history channel a couple weeks ago (pretty fluffy) but they stated the 427 hit a wall at about 155. thus the "coupe"

Agro-
Like I said, it really was NOT directed at anyone in particular. I was just responding to what I have witnessed over the last 2 plus years b/c I think a lot (not all) of the crap Evan gets is unwarranted.

As to Karl's point (and yours), I agree that no one likes to have their pedigree slapped in their face. And maybe Evan's signature and screen name are obnoxious - or maybe he just does it to ruffle feathers and cause controversy- but either way, if you don't like it, ignore it and it becomes a non-issue.

As for this, I am lost . . .

My reference to people flogging their cars on the track was purely for sake of illustrating different interests and was in no way meant to impugne the image or reputation of those who raced in the 60s. You can fill in whatever activity you want- wax, race, show, drive, whatever, it doesn't matter. The point was (and is) that we all like these cars for different reasons and no reason is better than another. I say again, to each his own.

No hard feelings.
