For $120K, I'll give you a whole set of brakes. I'll even make 'em Brembos!
And, to sum up my feelings about Elanor, let me quote the late drummer, Buddy Rich:
"You're nothing but a BS high school jive artist. Well, MF, you've jived me for the last time."

I like the car. I think it looks cool.
The price seems a "little" high.
Don't like the fact non Shelby cars are being put in the Registry but things are clearly different today at SAAC. Clearly commerical "interests" at work.
I guess you make an argument for a section for Shelby "endorsed" products. I guess someone already did and prevailed.
Oh well.
Seriously considering selling the ol' CSX and going to Porsche. Leave all this silly stuff behind. Would love a new Twin Turbo. Been thinking about it. Hmmm.
Even SAAC is getting ridiculous.

If you think CSX owners are anal .....
Evan,
Porchephiles will make you look like an amateur!
Stay with the CSX and remain the REAL big fish in a small Cobra pond.

STG: You are right. But at least there will be no argument that my twin turbo is REAL.
Thanks for the advice. I'll take it under advisement.

Evan - A buddy of mine has a brand new 996 twin turbo...They are for sure bad a$$ cars...Would love to have one as a daily driver...We took'em out to the track and he couldn't keep up with my SPF. What is assolutly amazing about the thing is the ease with which you can drive it fast...and I mean REAL fast...He was hitting 150 at the end of the front straight at Willow Springs; on street tires. He would catch me in the twisties but could never get close enough to take me...
If your gonna get one, I would suggest the GT-2. Same thing almost but with none of that 4wd crap. In the GT-2 you can steer it with your right foot...Not that it really matters though, the reg Turbo is absolutly effortless to drive fast...Kinda ruins it for me though, but as a daily driver they are awesome. The sound though leaves a bit to be desired, especially compared to the Cobra.
Crap - did I just agree with you ????

Evan-
You might not have to argue about the Real-ity of a Porsche, but how much fun would that be??

Evan,
If you want to "Leave all this silly stuff behind" just stay away from CC. When you start your car, it reminds you how real it is. Just enjoy your car! You have one of the nicest Cobras around. A Porche is great, but would it make you smile like 4206?
SAAC is getting a bit ridiculous - but the only ridiclulous about 4206 is how ridiculously fast and fun it is to drive.
There is a reason you are one of only a few CSX owners who actively participate here at CC. I think I speak for everyone at CC when I say we appricate your opionons.

My .02 cents.....I think if you have a GT-500,if it is not already in the "book" than it should be....If you turn it into an Eleanor, than fine, your still in the "book"....but to take any ole 67 fastback and make an Eleanor and expect to be or be put in the "book",that's wrong....plain and simple....
That would be a gaint slap in the face to very legitmate Cobra and Shelby GT owner that is in the "book" and would make the value people place on the registry go down,,IMHO anyway....
I know if I ever owned an original CSX, I would be honored to see my name in the registry, but than to include 400 Eleanor clones that are nothing more than glorified 67 Fastbacks, that would be one hell of an insult to me....
Again, just my .02 cents, and that and .75 cents will buy you a cup of coffee in beautiful downtown Marksville Louisiana on any saturday morning.......

Thanks Guys: Appreciate your input. Yes. I have heavily weighed trading in 4206 on a nice Fly yellow twin turbo or one in that new seal grey color. As Argo said its WAAAY fast, comfortable, has windows that work, warm in the winter, cool in the summer, you can drive it in the rain, comes with a great warranty, no one will argue with me whether its a REAL twin turbo but in the end I keep coming back to the same problem....
Its not a Cobra.
Damn.
Maybe you guys are right!..
See. We can agree on things.
Besides if I left the Cobra world what would you guys do. I'm the guy you love to hate. Just think how boring it would be around here!

I would be absolutely heartbroken to see ya go Evan . But seriously though, I would hate to see you get rid of such a sweet car. To me, the 996 Turbo is WAY too over engineered and also very expensive. If cost is a factor (which it doesn't seem to be considering you have a CSX) I would keep the Cobra and go find yourself a nice used 993 Turbo, or the 993 Turbo 3.6 . Of course I sure if there is a female companion around that may also be the concern....
But re: the 993 Turbo 3.6 . It also, is blindingly fast is, "comfortable, has windows that work, warm in the winter, cool in the summer, you can drive it in the rain, comes with a great warranty" as you previously stated. I LOVE that car, much more so than the 996 Turbo. The lines are nicer, the car is a much better car for a driver who likes to DRIVE and not have the car do all the work. In short, it is a much more "raw" automobile, all the way down to the exhaust note. Plus, you could probably pick one up for a really good deal.

Argo1: I agree the 993 Turbo is beautiful and more visceral. The problem of keeping the CSX and getting a Turbo is the wife. She thinks there should be a limit on the number of toys a guy can have. Actually she has been pretty understanding up to this point but I wouldn't want to push it. She even let me get a Harley.
I wish she were interested in cars. That would be a perfect excuse to get a 993 Turbo and keep the Cobra too. But alas. Not to be. She is more into jewelry and the kids Your typical woman. Not that thats bad its just well...a woman thing. In fact even though she sort of "likes" the Cobra she would much rather have a Mercedes SL. Get the picture. In fact I am constantly protecting the Cobra from her overature to exchange it for a new SL. Its like "Rosemary's Baby" kinda thing. I'm always protecting it and she is always looking for a way to get rid of it.
I wish she was into cars. I was even trying to talk her into getting a new little slabside Cobra with a 302. That would have been cool. Oh well.
Ernie: Yeah. I did forget about the cup holder. Thanks.
Ketih: Where is Lake Braddock in relation to Great Falls, Va?. I don't know about you but I sure do miss Virginia.

Even - Here's your solution...Scrap the Porsche idea. Keep the Cobra and if she wants an SL, get the new SL 55. I drove one, and with 492hp it will kick the crap out of any Prosche...Slap a Einsman exhaust on it and they sound AMAZING; and it'll walk away from juuuust about ANY Porsche, and do it in effortless style...
That's the ticket man, she's happy, your happy - and you come out looking like the caring husband -

Evan,
Lake Braddock is in Burke, VA - between Fairfax City and Springfield. The nearest other high schools were West Springfield and Robinson. The school opened in 1974 and had about 4200 students when I was there.
I too miss Virginia. I still have a lot of friends in the area I keep in touch with though. One thing I don't miss is the horrendous traffic. I returned back to Burke from 1986-1993 and hated my daily commute of 7 miles which average between 1-1.5 hours one way

Keith

My own Cheerleader is not a car person, though she did enjoy kicking butt with the 96 Impala she once had. Strangely though--she, as many women do, loves the power ehancement of driving an SUV (Expedition) amongst mere mortal cars.
A thought might be to see if your wife might enjoy an AMG MB SUV or even a H2--and provide you with a classy tow vehicle when needed.
The new SL is the best thing on the planet at this writing though. I tested one in LA--an extremely nice all around car.
