Jaguar or...........Dump truck
I noticed from the begining that my Contemporary was not the tight turner I expected from a car with these dimensions.
However , I m just completing my new garage in a portion of my old driveway, and have created a new "t" turnaround.
I've been using it for a couple months during construction ,but hadn't had the Cobra up and running for a few months, until this last weekend..............................
That jag front end is worse than my E250 !!!
Is this typical for Cobra ....or just Jag..........or just MY Cobra......and can it be adjusted......
thanks.......big rig Karl

Karl,
My Contemporary had the same issue yours has, but I never expected it to turn around in it's own length. I don't think there's much you can do except to have a front end shop look at it to see if the steering rack is traveling it's full length both ways and that there is no bind up.
Anywhere but in a confined driveway, I found mine to handle the twisties very nicely and was very nimble in traffic.

You have to determine which rack you have. You probably have an aftermarket Jag rack. If you want quicker steering you need the XKE rack. Call Terry's Jaguar in Benton , Illinois , and explain what you want or have one built. I have a quick rack I bought from Terry's, and it works fine. You might also speak with George Petrus at Accurate Machine.

Surely a quick rack won't improve the turning circle at all, but it will make the steering heavier.
My Kit uses Jag suspension and steering, and I agree that the steering lock is pretty poor. But with 9" wide wheels at the front and low suspension there isn't much room for a wheel to turn under the arch.

Thanks for the replies guys, I actually have the "e" type steering and I like the handling just fine, its the huge turning radius that stunned me. but you are probably right ,with the big tires and low body I maybe couldnt use it any way.
I wonder about other manufacturers?

The Arntz uses an MGB front suspension. I have often thought of upgrading it to somthing more modern. It does have a nice feel and a very tight turning radius, though. After reading your post, maybe I better leave it alone.

Karl,
I should have noted that I did NOT have a Jag rack in my Contemporary. Mine was MG as were the original Cobras.
That brings up an interesting question for owners of original 427 cars to answer.....how they feel about their turning radius? I never thought to ask the owner of an original, or even pay much attention as I watched them turn around.

I like Agro's answer. Reducing Turning radius requires two inputs; The steering wheel and the gas pedal.
