I don't think anyone misinterprets the ad except the usual crew here.
Is it an original Shelby Cobra. Yes.
By definition "original" can be used different ways. Is it original as in of the first series or first in order or of the vintage series? No.
Is it an original Cobra as being something that anything else of it is a copy or reproduction of it . Yes. Is it from the source or origin of the Cobra? Yes.
When most of us use the term "original" there is no question we normally mean to refer to the first series or vintage. I don't believe anyone reading that ad REALly believes they are buying an original "vintage" Cobra for SAI today. But there are other meanings to the term original.
Avanti stated it well. I would clarify though. CSX 4000's are REAL Shelby Cobras. CSX 3000 are REAL vintage Shelby Cobras. This makes it very clear. Both could be refered to as original depending on how you are using that term.
But I do agree that most people mean "vintage" when they say "original".
The CSX 4000 is a "replica" or "duplicate" of the original series Cobra as it must be by definition since it comes after that series and is EXACTLY like it. Anything after the original ( as in "first one" ) is by definition a replica of the preceding one. CSX 3004 was a "replica" of CSX 3002. After all it duplicates or replicates the previous unit.
There are replicas/duplicates which are not REAL Cobras.
There are now replicas/duplicates which are REAL Cobras.
One thing for sure they are original CSX 4000 Cobras. In the years to come that may be worth quite a bit. Who knows.
All I can say is "get REAL."
Ernie: You da man! Bingo! Why don't these other guys get it?

everyone generally agrees that the 4000 series are Real Cobras, although not "original" in the most commonly used sense of the word.
Would the words "authentic" or "genuine" instead of "original" make people happier?

Mike: I think one way to handle it is to refer to the "orignal series" as vintage Cobras.
When people ask me if my car is an "original" I say "no" because I know they are probably asking me if it is a vintage or 3000 series car. I know thats probably what they mean.
I do tell them it is a REAL Cobra from Shelby American however and explain simply SAI began limited production again in 1997 to original specs.
Even if the question is "Is that a REAL Cobra" I will say yes but explain what it is.
Honestly, peoples reaction is always same upon learning its a REAL Shelby. Pure awe and enthusiasm.
Hows your car coming??? Would love to see it.

Here's a wrench in the theory.
Isn't the Shelby's CSX an original Kirkham?
Since Kirkham makes them for Shelby.
How much will you pay for a vin plate?
I know you can buy a CSX vin plate for $15
then put on a Kirkham.
Wouldn't that be the same as a CSX4xxx?
Any comments?

Oh yeah.
Who would name a hockey team after a bird that waddles with webbed feet?
I'm sorry. I wasn't trying to bait you into responding. This may help. Whatever you do just don't think about this thread and the fact that we have established the CSX is a REAL Original Cobra.
Just don't think about it.
RichA: To quote one of our moderators "Go to your room" Bad. Bad boy.
First you couldn't buy a CSX plaque. They are not available. Each plaque is made for a particular car and is numbered. They are proprietary and will not be sold by SAI.
You could make the same argument with the original AC Cobras. They aren't Shelby's but you could stamp "CSX" on the frame I guess if you wanted to. Would'nt make it a Shelby though.

Almost no one outside of this site...
Could care less about this point/issue. Out in the real world, it's dead, Jim
I have not been even asked who manufactured my car yet. But I cannot go anywhere without it being the center of attention. it's fun to park it, as ( as I will tonight, we are going out ) and watch the wide open mouths and stares. It turns grown men into kids again, and has an affect on the ladies as well...

Black, you made more sense in that one paragraph than I've seen in a long time.
The King is Dead. Long live the King!
All these cars are soooooooooooo much fun. Doesnt matter a whole lot who made it to a causal spectator. Perhaps we all should just watch thier faces and take enjoyment in the pleasure we bring to others with our AC derivates. All of them.....
Just my two cents worth. I'm excited every time I see one. Aren't you?

Oh well!
I try. But just can't seem to win for losing! Isn't the original, vintage, replica, etc issue dead? We all have our own opinions.......some more valid than others and all can be argued.......some better than others
Can't we all just agree to disagree?
Peace out
Rick
