Irresponsible behavior at the cruise.

I’ve waited a few days to post this in order to let the well deserved messages of congratulations be passed along to DV and the crew for the fantastic job the did with DVSF III. Every positive thing said was, if anything, understated. Great job Ed! Thank you and everyone associate with DVSF for the tireless, good, and munificent work you all did.

That said, I think it worthwhile to bring up some behavior by a very small number of people at the cruise that should be discussed.

We were all asked to be careful when doing the burnout/cobra rides in London. Both my wife and myself gave rides with our car and we both did get into it and light them up. But we also were aware of where we were. On a city street that was lined with trees, houses and people on sidewalks etc.. Yes the street was wide but it was still a city street. Yes the police “said” it was ok but incumbent upon the driver was safety. Yet there were still people in the gas all the way to 4th gear. Some were clocked at over 100 mph. On a city street. That was not safe. THIS IS NO REFLECTION ON DV. HE ASKED US NOT TO DO THINGS LIKE THAT. We were lucky that no one was hurt. And the fact that no one was hurt proves nothing but luck. I would cringe as I watch the same people take these foolish risks with paying “civilians”. One jerk (yes I said it) had a child (under 10) in the car with him as he raced it through 4th gear (I bet it was one of those 100mph + runs). Yes it was a fast car, yes it was loud, yes it was exciting for the crowd but it was STUPID. Afterward the girl said she was scared to death. If I had been the “paying public” father of her and she had been hurt by that jerk I shutter to think of what I would have then done to him. But some people just would not listen to instructions. Like the people that were asked not to do runs during the band performance at London, but did them anyway. Which was both infuriating and embarrassing to DV. Or when people were trying to speak (including Kirkham) at the airport and some people just had to run their cars a few feet away drowning out what was being said. Rude behavior by some, stupidity by a few and luck were some of the themes of the weekend.

Yes we all had fun. But we were all lucky that the only damage was, as far as I know, a blown clutch, a cracked block and a bent up cobra.

I am not trying to start a flame war but we need to discuss this as a community. Perhaps, I am wrong and doing over 100mph on a city street with a kid in the car is really prudent, safe and intelligent. I know the organizers asked us not to do take stupid risks but I wonder if all of us are qualified to identify one.
