Smile What Do You Read?

Fellow Car Nuts:

We are looking into advertising for our cars. I am wondering what magazines you read and where you would first go to find us if you were interested in one of our cars.

I understand we are not all that easy to find if you are not a member of this site.

Many thanks in advance,

David

David-

In no particular order, they are

Car and Driver
Kit Car
Mustangs & Fords
Mustang Monthly
Car Craft
Hot Rod
Autoweek
Hemmings

And that's just what is in my desk or briefcase (no wonder my briefcase is so damn heavy ). I'm sure I have others at home.

If I didn't know where to find you, I'd probably go to Kit Car first.

Hi David,

I'm so literal:

Quote:
looking into advertising for our cars
I do most of my research on the web. I used to use magazines and still do occasionally.

You may want to consider a web site as a means of getting "the word" out to lots of folks, either in place of or as an adjunct to print ads.

Also, a brochure is a pretty good thing. What I mean here is, for example, the brochure I got from E-M years ago. It was detailed enough to answer most of my questions about prices, options, choices and a myriad of details. It also had an active "shelf life" of years, literally! I'd refer to it over the years - I'd guess 10 to 15 years - and I think it was instrumental in my acquiring an E-M at long last

Just a small "outside the magazine ad" series of thoughts!

Tom

Default Hi David

I read Autoweek
Car and Driver
Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords (great engine articles)
Car Craft
Popular Hot Rodding
Hot Rod

I've cut back quite a bit, but read these pretty regularly. You should poll your customers and see what they read.

John

Hi David,

I mostly read Tom Clancy, WEB Griffin and Dean Koontz.

My favorite magazine is Grassroots Motorsports. You guys should check it out. I subscribe to Kit Car and Hot Rod also. I'll pick up Car and Driver, Road and Track or Automobile once in a while. They're just too commercial these days. I do like to read a Rod and Custom every few months. It has ads for great stuff. Circle Track has very useful articles, too.

The Sunday New York Times?
Sunday Boston Globe?
Sunday LA Times?
Have you put any thought in to a "how to build an aluminum car" show to be marketed to Speedvision, My Classic Car, Motorweek, and other (I have a CC trade mark on this idea) media style venues......Why not give a car to Motorweek to use for a few weeks, let them give it one of their "honest opinions"....Nothing beats free advertising, even if it cost you a few dollars up front(yes, I know, an oxymoron)........Once again, your looking for the unconventional buyer, you need to think in an unconventional way to find them, or have them find you..............

Autoweek, Car and Driver, Playboy, FHM, Gear, National Geographic, Reader's Digest, Newsweek, Big Twin (now defunct!), and the occasional Hemming's Motor News. Some magazines get read more thoroughly than others.... Have seen a few Robb Reports; nice high-end magazine.
