Fred,
I too have told the story of parking my car at Fisherman's Wharf here at San Francisco. I returned to the car within 15 minutes or so after I parked it.
As I got closer to the car I could see a small gathering around my car. I had many people show interest in the car before, but never a crowd.
I was proud and happy that the car was getting that kind a attention and couldn't wait to hurry back and say "excuse me" and push the masses aside while I slowly got in my car and drove away like only a Cobra owner could have.
What surprised me was, as I got closer to the car I realized the nature of the crowd. yes they liked the car alright, however this crowd was a small gathering of Chinese tourists taking turns getting in my car and having their photos taken!!

I tried. I tried very hard.!!
They didn't appear to understand Turkish. If they did, they wouldn't remain there with a silly grin on their faces they had until they left.
There was never a time in my life I wanted to be fluent in Mandarin, more.

Hey Bill,
I'll take you up on the offer, I could use another hat. Thanks,
By the way, a good investment is a cockpit cover. Keeps the curious (and Chinese tourists) out of the car.

Time for a good old fashioned lynching!
The guy that took the hat, you will probably see him again.
The guy with the Porsche who sat in your car!!!!!!!! WHAT THE F#%&. Cleansing of the gene pool is in order. Take his girl friend and his car when you are through. Clueless.
Japanese tourist....... what can I say. Often so enthusiastic and upbeat. I can just see them now with there 2.3 electronic devices each, the glasses, all dressed the same, so happy to be here. Guess after Pearl Harbor they figure they don't need to ask!

@Fred: buffalo - like hominid - sounds like my wife describes me!
This summer, we took a trip with 3 cobras and ended up in a bavarian biergarten, which you could reach by climbing 50 stairs from the parking lot. While sitting their and having fun, I looked down and saw a kid, maybe 12, pulling on my wheel, leaning into my car, figuring out how to open the door. And the best thing: his mother stands aside, laughing - great education! First I thought of throwing the almost empty 1 liter bierkrug, but then I was afraid of hitting the car and raised my voice just a bit (you couldn`t hear the music for a few seconds), and they took off.
I have a tonneau, but most of the time I´m just too lazy. Sometimes I think off attaching an eletric shocker to the weel. This has the advantage, that there will be no blood stain on the seat.

Why would you think that? Jerks come in all kinds, from all walks of life. I had a sweatshirt stolen off the seat of my car many years ago. I would leave a folded up sweatshirt on the pass seat on my red 69 camaro at shows, so I could remember which red 69 camaro was mine. One cruise night it was missing, I guess somebody got chilly and took it. I thought that had to be the dumbest thing smebody would steal, until I heard about the hat.

Let's see now.... I got the hat, I got the sweatshirt now all I need is to have someone leave a pair of pants in their car I'll have a new outfit.
(and that would be an XL in the pants)
Mr. Fixit,
How much did you have to drink at these shows? Lose your car a lot at shows do you?

I made the mistake of painting a 69 camaro red, just like every other 69 camaro known to man. I don't how you guys tell your guardsman blue with white stripe 427SC's apart at cobra shows, do you just keep trying blue and white cobras until the ignition key works?

Freddie,
Great story! I love the way you handled the situation. You showed admirable restraint. Many would have been at the guy's throat, but you have real style!

Once, when I lived in New Orleans, I left my season tickets to the Saints on the front seat of my car with the windows down and the doors unlocked hoping someone would come along and take them.
Unfortunatly, when I returned a few hours later there were 2 more sets of season tickets laying next to mine.
I'll never make that mistake again!

Charlie may you prosper and enjoy life!
....I certainly get a laugh a day....
Here's a beauty from antedeluvian times...it was in the Christian Science Monitor--about (Hell I got outta collutch c. 1968,
so it was maybe 10 years after that). A radio host read it (I didn't)---A couple was camping in their Winnebago Whale-guppy somewhere out west and were deep asleep when they were awakened by some catamount yowling and coughing. Whoopin', barfesque sounds, etc. They thought it was some sort of wildlife, so chose to stay aboard the HMS. Youcantakeitwithyou (or whatever they named their Winner-bagel). The noise died down, hubby goes out with a flashlight, sees a siphon-hose protruding from the rear of their camper and a small plastic jerry-jug. It seems the thief got into the "wrong" nozzle---guess which one----hint: Hunter S. Thompson's "The Man with the Blue Arm"....
If we ever meet, I'll by ya a drink Chollie---you're what the CC club is all about!

I took the Cobra to an All Chevy Show at Magic Mountain amusement park, and I had inadvertently left two one-dollar bills on the passenger seat. When I came back to the car about an hour later, there were SIX dollar bills on the seat! Those Chevy guys must have felt sorry for me!!!
