Byots, is the 58mm weber intake a holman moody intake, with the webers straight up? Like used on the Hilborn 427 FI intakes, whiich were a 58 mm intake adapted to a fuel injection set-up?
I think it has been documented that a couple of cobra's came with the high riser heads, is that true?
What does Byots stand for Bring Your Own T S ?

Karl
I am always willing to listen to someone that seems to have an inside track on Cobra knowledge.
B...I wonder how many comp and SC came with 2-4's and why most wear only 1-4?
Also...The high riser story. Did it fit with either a single 4 or weber setup under the hood? You mentioned the scoop on 3005. Was it like a Cosby hood?
Which cars run High Risers now?

Maybe, Maybe-Not HR INTAKE
The PI intake I have has no throtle linkage mount in the castings and no PVC Flanges/bulges even cast into the manifold. It does have a Heat Riser though I have not specificly looked for an actual fitting/flange area.
It seems to me that a High Riser Intake ought to stick out like a sore thumb in a manicure show. I have a friend with the appropriate 2nd generation refined port heads and 1X4 HR intake. That picture you discribe should be easy to determine if its a HR with direct comparison. The additional height of the HR should be pretty obvious if carefully compared.

BB,
The defining feature of the High riser is the very tall intake ports and steeper runner angle. they are not visually real different looking than a midriser
HR Intake 2.6x1.24
MR intake 1.94x1.24

THe HR manifold is about 2 - 3 inches taller than nearly every other (about 4 -5 more than a LR) FE manifold. To me, it visually stands out due to the height. It was the second iteration of FE design and required the tear-drop hood scoop for clearance. Ford went to the MR design primarily to eliminate the giant hood scoop required by the HR.

High risers are real easy to tell apart from the other manifolds due to the near 90 degree angle that is formed at the junction of the block and head.....

Is it true that no 427's came with 2x4's? I thought only the 428's came with the 2x4's and the 427's had the single 4 bbl. / turkey pan set up.

Terry,
Not true,.........all comp and most s/c cars came with a single four....almost all roadsters ( 427 or 428 ) came with 2x4......there dosnt seem to be any finites with Shelby as a lot of the cars were built or modified to customer request....

Byots,
No sweat,....I had always thought the S/C cars were 2x4 configured.....and as you know ,this is at least a semi regular discussion/arguement .....after years of listening to people who should know, and reading references in Shelby related books, I have come to the conclusion that nobody REALLY knows.....the bulk of evidence seems to support at least a fair mix of the two...and as you noted also with low riser and midriser engines.....
I guess I dont want to be the latest guy to draw a line in the sand ......and from a couple of your previous posts, you seem to be well informed.....the only reference I could pick up this morning was the S/C spec. page from "Shelby Cobra, Gold Portfolio"..... "Carburetor : Holly 4v " ..
I would be interested in more firm evidence anytime ......I am mostly here to learn ,...not to preach..
