BTW: The day that you hold all Superformance Owners/and Factory Authorized Dealers responsible for the individual guys on ebay that list their cars as Shelby Cobra Superformances ....
I will start holding you personally responsible for ALL of the shady practices of the insurance industry. |

Reading this stuff just makes you want to hug him... |
hiq...kirkham also lists their cars under 'cobra' or 'shelby'. that is wher i have found them as i don't follow the kit car pick and have found their ads on a regular basis when i search for 'shelby' or 'cobra' (can't recall if they are in one category or the other as i bounce back and forth between those two picks). . more power to them, maximize exposure. cheap adv money for the power of ebay. . i also note that corvettes, cobra helicoptors, cobra chris craft antique boats etc as well as other odd brand non cobra'esque' cars also get listed under cobra as in other sections. sometimes those same 'offenders' pop up also when i search 'shelby'. multiple category listing and sneaking in under other performance car banners far removed from the cars folks are selling is common practice. annoying to see a chevy in a mercury cougar selection etc, but it happens every day . wow, you should see what categories i find ferrari ads listed in. i am sure glad al gore invented this internet stuff. it is cheap entertainment. like club cobra. bill.

You again? Someone steal the rock out of your river? K.M.A HIQ- Kirkhams will always be Politically Correct. They are confident with who they are and their product speaks for itself. A more righteous bunch will be tough to find. Dan I didn't know Ray had the problem. As for the ads, the Companies themselves don't seem to ever be guilty and are proud of what they sell. It seems to be the individuals trying for the re-sale. If Hemmings has straightened it out fro the sellers, great. Ebay should follow and have guidelines. There are certainly enough Cobra Replica's for sale on the secondary market that each manufacturer should have it's own listing there to. The do have listings for Studebakers. I bet they will have more Cobra's. The listings are warranted and would help in the Cobra confusion to the new Cobra buyer. And they told me this thread would die off quick!!!  I showed'em now dudn't I  |
Dan
Are you insinuating that the Insurance Industry has shady practice?
Like the used car industry? I'm not referring to hold any manufacturers responsible for anything. That would translate to Bartenders being responsible for people drinking and driving. |
No question about one thing: The Kirkhams bend over backward to make their ad's as truthful, ethical and easy to understand as possible.
One thing that David K. has mentioned that "bothers" him is limits within E-Bay about the how the car can be listed in regards to "year model". Listing a Kirkham as a 200X model is mi-leading. Yet listing it as a 1966 is also problematic. Solution? Note their AD is careful to point out this is NEW car, thus avoiding confusion over it being a "real" vintage Cobra. Ernie |
You guys really need to lighten up.

There is way too much conspiracy and paranoia by Mr. Real 1 and Mr. CSX (I mean Steve...) about the ads on E-Bay. They make it sound like everyone selling a "Cobra" on E-Bay is trying to deceive the buyers into thinking they are or are related to a Shelby Cobra. Get "Real", plenty of people on this thread have explained the reasons why this is the case. It's also funny how they are making it sound like it's just the Superformance owners doing this. I think the seller in the ad made it very clear it is a Superformance Cobra and anyone looking at the car could do a search on the internet and get the Superformance websight and see that there is no mention of the car being a Shelby Cobra. The car is a "replica" of a AC or Shelby Cobra, I would have listed it under the same category.

Casaleenie: ...I think we'll ALL need a hug after this one.

I started it
And Ize a gonna end it.

Steve's reference ad on page 1 of this thread DOES seem a little misleading! For an uninformed buyer who knew little about replicas, kits, etc, the ad is worded in a way that tells the car is a "Shelby", when it is in fact a "Superformance." If I were to sell my Cobra on Ebay, I WOULD list it under "Shelby", in order to "cast a wide a net as possible", to maximize my effort. I would not use the word "Shelby" anywhere else in the ad, just on the first "header line." I would also use the word "COBRA", because "COBRA" IS what 99.9% of the people in the world think of when they see ANY Cobra, real, replica, kit, or what-have-you. I would use the word "replica" a lot, just to make my intentions known...........................As for the term "Jumbo Shrimp", shrimp were called shrimp because they were shrimp, NOT because they were small! A jumbo shrimp is a larger-than-normal shrimp! So, in conclusion, "Jumbo Shrimp" is not, then, an oxymoron! (just had to clear that up!!!)

Wait just one darn minute Bandit.
Are you suggesting that there are people out there that might try to "deceivingly" convince others that their newly built kitcar replica is a genuine Shelby Cobra? Worthy of entrance into the SAAC Registry? And thereby entitling its owner to all the benefits and privileges associated with such membership? Not the least of which being the ability to join and hijack a previously existing online replica community and undertake a mulit-year crusade to "teach" other replica owners that they are "in fact" better than everyone else as a result of such ownership? I could imagine how that offer would be enticing to an owner of a "brand x" replica kitcar cobra who need only sell the prevoiusly mentioned "brand x" replica kitcar cobra and pony up double the ante to join that new fraternity. However the joke comes in the end when that new fraternity member realizes he cant buy the respect of his peers. "RANGERS LEAD THE WAY" -le snake |

"rangers lead the way".................Its you isnt it ......Evan |
I don't need to "deceivingly" convince anyone the new Shelby's are genuine Cobras. Take a look at the SAAC registry and the facts. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. Couldn't careless whether anyone here is convinced or not. Someone says something. I respond. Thats it.
The person who placed the ad clearly referred to his car as a "Shelby Cobra". I quote "This Shelby Cobra".... Its not. Its not even in the same universe as a Shelby Cobra. Its totally different except for a shell that looks like a Shleby Cobra. He had two places to list the car. "kit car" or Shelby Cobra. He obviously chose the latter rightfully understanding there is value to that classification. Technically and properly he should have listed his car in the "kit car" category cause it ain't no Shelby Cobra. Point is, when its advantageous many try to associate their car as closely as possible to a Shelby Cobra. I don't blame them though. If I'm not going to be liked or respected because I'm pointing out the facts then I don't need your respect or you to like me. The feellngs mutual. BTW I imagine all SPF dealers are probably getting a little nervous now that you can buy a REAL Shelby Cobra for the price of a replica SPF (not double). In fact had a friend say to me the other day, who is in the market for a car that there is no reason to buy replica when he can get a fiberglass bodied Shelby for near the same price now. I guess the name does have value. ;) P.S. Rangers do lead the way. ;) |

I have to agree that a lot of us that don't own a Shelby series whatever, use the term Shelby Cobra to explain what our cars look like. Just the other day, I was talking to some guys (Porch drivers) that were convinced I have a Mustang. When I mentioned Cobra they thought I had a GT500, so I said "no it looks like a Shelby Cobra, you know the little two seat roadster?" The first thing they said back was "Oh a Factory Five?" and I said "Exactly!":D |
OUCH!
"Oh a Factory Five?" Man sometimes the truth really hurts.
Ernie  |
The original Cobra's were made by SAI using body and chasis fabricated by AC. The Cobra was worlds apart from the original Ace.
Whether you want to say ol' Shel warmed over AC's or not one thing you said was correct. FFR's and SPF look like Shleby Cobras. Thats where the resemblence stops. ;) |
How is it going?
How is every one doing today? Good? alrighty then. Check on you later!

I guess we all have to leave
I can't remember where I saw this???
"CLUB COBRA" "You have arrived at the worlds largest source for COBRA related information" I guess all us poor replica guys need to leave this forum as we do not have the right to participate in "COBRA related information" discussions. I bought what fit my budget and my taste. I will put it next to any car, any where, and I will call it what ever the hell I want to. :p Brent |
