REAL 1 10-23-2003 08:57 AM

I don't think the SPF owner is trying to mislead anyone. Never said that. My point is simple and unchanged. Anyone seriously looking at that car should know enough to understand its not a Shelby.

I have absolutely no problem with the CSX ad. IMHO it is advertised correctly. He also says the car is brand new and identifies the car as a 4000 series. Again anyone looking to buy one of these cars ought to know what that is.

misfit41 10-23-2003 09:06 AM

again it seems to me soem guys have to much time on their hands,I also laugh at soem of the ads selling soem really low quality cars, but wherever you go on ebay it is the same,a few good things amoung lots of scams, cobras are no different.
I think the problem largely is lots of guys trade in their cars to a dealer who knows little about it,or has someone else list his car, then it is listed for sale by the girl who list the other cars,Krause is notorious for this kind of stuff.
I dont consider SPF or any finished roller a kit car,and as long as Carroll Shelby, the Shelby registry ,and the girl at vehicle reg says a csx4000 is a real car,,it's a real car,end of story.

Nuke427 10-23-2003 09:11 AM

Some quotes from Real 1:

"Its absolutely comical how some guys trash Shelby, his name and argue the name "Shelby" "Shelby American" "Cobra" adds no value or little value to the car as far as they are concerned and that to pay extra for the name is a rip off but when the time to sell rolls around they clearly misrepresent and paint their car as a "Shelby Cobra".

And another:

"He is clearly trying to take advantage by calling and referring to his car as a Shelby Cobra. Its not. All he had to say right up front was "Shelby Cobra Replica by SPF".

"He clearly chose to do otherwise with a specific intent"

I'm done.

Chaplin 10-23-2003 09:29 AM

Nuke & Evan,
you're both right (and wrong).

The guy is definetely benefiting by using the name Shelby in the ad, no doubt about it. But, if I were trying to sell my car, I would too. Ebay works like any other search engine. Type in what you're looking for and it brings it up. Therefore, if I were selling my car I would include "Shelby", "Cobra" "427", ERA and any other things which might increase the chance of someone seeing it.

However, the guy is not trying to misrepresent the car as it clearly says that it is a SPF.

So, in a nutshell, he is benefitting by using the Shelby name, i.e., increased exposure, but he is not trying to misrepresent what it actually is. And I'd do it the same way.

Now excuse me while I go back to staring at HIQ's avatar. . .

Nuke427 10-23-2003 09:31 AM

avanti-176, point well taken, wasn't trying to insinuate that you were being a "bonehead". This thread is too long. I think I'll head to the garage area and fire up my BDR and go for a spin!

avanti-176 10-23-2003 09:53 AM

Nuke,
I really did not think you were insinuating anything. Even so
I don't have any problem being called a "bonehead" if I have been one (which is more often than I would like%/ ). I have pretty thick skin and a good sense of humor, both of which a lot of the people in this country are sorely lacking these days.

Enjoy your ride in the Backdraft for me also since as I look out my office window right now it is SNOWING.... man this sucks:CRY:

Have a good one,
Dan

I always thought when someone uses the 'Shelby' name it's to clarify that the Cobra is not a late model Mustang Cobra. I suppose I'm guilty of using the 'Shelby' name to distinguish the difference. The majority of the people who ask me what kind of car I race think 'Mustang' when I say Cobra, but when I say "no, a Shelby Cobra" then they know. As for the majority of the people that see my car: "Hey, nice Viper"

Turk 10-24-2003 02:25 AM

It is NOT Shelby name that is making that POS worth that kind of money. It says clearly "TURK" in the ad.

Pretty soon I hope to have a category on Ebay just for "Turk" cars. Kind a like Saleen, and Ruff, and Rousch.

That's where the money is...."TURK CARS"

Send your cars to me, and we will have them Turkimsized for the proper amount, and you will reap the benefits of such a designation..

It may very well be not the "TURK" that is adding such value, but the Gashole fame..... Who knows.

TURK

larryar 10-24-2003 07:13 AM

All I have to say is #14!!:D

Chaplin 10-24-2003 08:10 AM

Turkimsized?

I hope that's not like circumcised, because I can't afford to give up much more:LOL: :D

REAL 1 10-24-2003 03:40 PM

Ouy vey. That just gave me such a migraine. :JEKYLHYDE

Excaliber 10-24-2003 05:15 PM

The money factor....

If "TURK" is the big money factor here, then a "Road Serpent" WITH a Turk signature series dash would be off the chart BIG money!
