Mustangs Unlimited has a whole range of badges. Their website is not the greatest but if you order their catalogs (and they have two) one for older mustangs and one for newer they have them all pictured in color there.

I put "Powered by Ford" badges rather than "427" because I didn't want to deal with the inevitable question: "Is that a 427 under the hood?"
Well it turns out I got asked that question a LOT anyway! So I might as well have run "427" for all the good it did me not to!

Ernie, several years ago I used to bomb around town in an all original 1970 1/2 Z-28 Camaro. It used to steam me when I'd see a "poser", a wannabe Camaro sporting the stripes and emblems but definitely not an original.
Now after 20 years of mellowing out (LOL), it just doesn't bother me anymore. When someone asks me the 427 question, I just smile and say "Right now I'm running a 392 stroker" and leave it at that. If they want to give me crap, go ahead.....in one ear and out the other. Life's too short to raise your blood pressure over a false wrapper. To each his own, that's my new motto in life. And if the purists don't like it, let them sport the high blood pressure. My two cents....

Were ANY of these badges ever actually used on a Shelby Cobra besides the "427" and "powered by ford" badges? ->

Actually my 351W has the 427 firing order. Does that count?

I ordered a set of Pent roofs from Tony Branda last week. All they sell are 427 badges affixed with pins (which are identical to the side of the car badge) , these require drilling the vc's. Their point was an adhseive type would not stay on long term due to the hi heat and the glue breaking down.
Does anyone have experience with an adhered badge on the vc? Where can they be bought?
Thanks in advance,

Goaztecs,
Most of the badges on the site you posted were no doubt created for people who worry about "truth in advertising" on the side of their car. But, with the exception of the "427" and "Powered by Ford" badges are not accurate. That's not to say somewhere along the line, someone didn't slap a different badge on an original Cobra.
I personally don't think it matters what you run, if you like it, but if you're concerend about it, why don't you just run the "Powered by Ford" badge, which was correct for the 289. Accurate one available on the site below

Don't get me wrong - I like my 289. My cars goes like hell and sounds great. I just get tired of addressing the same question every time I take the car out. "Uh, no, it's got a 289". I am afraid that I if I put the "powered by ford" badge on, It'll only spark more questions from dumb@ss on-lookers. My logic is: today, many people see the 427 badge, and assume that's what's in it, so they don't ask. With the vague "powered by ford" badge, everyone will ask - "What's under yer hood?". If I run the aftermarket badge that says 289, the question is answered. On another note - how is this badge considered "NOS" if it was not originally used -> http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2458974157

Hi Roscoe,
That's been duly noted. There was even an experimental car than ran a 390.

I agree it is an "each to his own " sort of thing,The questions do get old,but then again,if no one noticed or ask, that would be REALLY old,, .
My personal opinion,if I had a 427 stroked small block,I would run 427,other wise I would use the 289 style badges and dress my motor to look like a 289 hi po,I think that would be fun, what a sleeper, and if every one thinks the car is a 427,they expect it to run like a top fuel car,,lol

Just for fun I thought I would get one that says 575. Then when asked if that is a 575 cubic motor I can say no, that is .575 dekaliter's round to the nearest thousandth. That should confuse them sufficiently. Doubt they would ask again.

Luke,
You don't drill holes in the valve covers to install the badges. The nicer badges are from Branda. Cut the pins off with a Dremmel Tool and cut off wheel. Use High Temp. RTV Gasket Sealant/Maker (Permatex), CLEAN both surfaces with alcohol or some other good de-greaser and stick them on. Let the RTV cure for 24 hours and they will be on forever.

Ernie, while waiting for my car to get painted I had Mopar Performance and Dodge Motorsports stickers on the side and poeple still asked if it was a real one and if it had a 427.
I was thinking of maybe some Piper badges, they have the same colors. I don't think many people notice the badges right away anyway.
