At 50 looks like I'm slightly above the average age.
Don't think I was having a mid life thing (my wife thinks so because of the $ spent). I was simply looking for something to do in my time off from the job. As it turns out I have built RC Pattern airplanes for some 20 years. Completing my Cobra added a new challange that was missing. Now if I can learn to drive the car competitively like I fly the RC planes. Steve |
I don't think any of you can beat 15, I'm not even old enough to drive, but I know my cars. Whether you've been researching automobiles your entire life, or you don't know a Chevy from a Porsche, the finest gift from god, the Shelby Cobra, should be on the top of any mans wish list. My age may drop your average some, but I shouldn't be saying anything new. If you old fogies think your packing something heavy that would impress me, go ahead and email.

38 and two weeks puts me slightly below the average but still in the majority of Cobra fans. Will be driving by 40, hopefully way before 40 then I can become GASKETMAN
This can't be a second-childhood thing for me as I am pretty sure I'm not done with my first yet. |
I'm 36 and I bought my B&B cobra last summer.
In Jr. high my best friend showed me a picture of a cobra and informed me that it was the greatest car ever built. I soon realized that he was right and I admired them for decades. Two years ago I saw a replica cobra at a car show and asked the guy what one would cost. It was a little beyond my budget, but I started investigating anyway. A few months later, my victorian house which I had been restoring for 10 years, was burned by painters stripping paint. 10 years down the toilet! I realized God has only given us a few years here and nothing we have is permanent. To keep my mind off my house fire problems, I started researching more seriously. My wife was very understanding and I was able to buy a factory-built car (I had enough projects with my house). Yes, I could use the money for something more practical, but I can't imagine anything more fun. I don't regret buying my cobra one bit. My heart still races everytime I look at it, and I say to myself "I can't believe that awesome machine is mine." |

I'm 54, yesterday! I am old-er but I refuse to grow up. I'm impressed with all the youngin's. When I came back from Vietnam, I had a life and a body to heal. Once that was done, all I needed was to get my education(just finished my M.S. last year!) and marry and get a job, and... now I really screwed the order up a bit and it took forever to get it all together, I worked for Kodak, Polaroid, Teledyne, Mitsubishi, Nextel and finally myself. It took me 37 years but God willing and a rapid turn around of the Nasdaq and I will realize a long time dream. Hopefully next year I'll be twelve again. James |
I was in my 20s when I first saw and fell in love with the car.
I was in my 30s-40s and early 50s when I dreamt about it. I was 53 when I gave my deposit to Peter from ERA at Carlisle last year. During the next 11 months I aged all the way to my 80s waiting for the damn thing. I also made sure I aged them at ERA as well. Last presidents day when the car got delivered to me I was young again, back to my 30s. I have studied and researched Cobras since I was 16.
I visited shops and manufacturing business all thru the mid-west.When I turned 39 I ordered my Cobra from B&B. It was the best decision I have ever made (except marring a wife that would let me get one). I don’t think it’s a mid life thing, I feel it’s timing, age, money and time. I had none of those when I was younger. |
Soon to be 39, Still feel like 18. Ever since I saw Cobras in Magazines and TV, I allways wanted one, every time I went by the 'zine rack at the store, I would drool at the choice of kits available. So I finally bought one and two years later, I got a Cobra of my own.
It reminds me of my neighbor, Pete, soon after finishing my car, I took it over to Petes, His wife saw it, then proclaimed "see Pete, if you hadn't been sitti'n on your butt for the last two years, you could'a built one of those too". Scott |
nuts, I was hoping for youngest at 16. No snake yet but my goal is before 25. Sooner the better right?
My dad's got a '64 Nova SS which is pretty sweet. I'm learning to drive a stick in it. Just joined the forums yesterday, this is my first post. Looks great so far! |
I'm 34 and still state that I hate grown-ups and don't ever want to be one. I've been researching this Cobra thing for about three years now and have a 351W sitting in my garage while I decide what kit it will go into.

im 18, so i dont think it is a midlife crisis thing. ive loved cobras ever since i saw my first one in my uncles body shop when i was 7. at that time i had no idea what it was but i thought it was the coolest car. so it is a life thing not just a mid life thing to enjoy the cobras. what do you all think

I will be 31 in may,I got bit so hard I sold some rental property to build my FFR in 99'and I sure don't miss the stress.I can't wait for the weather to improve, I am considering a Hardtop for next year to increase driveability.

Got bit 2 years ago while surfing the net and recovering from ameobic dysentary and intestional infection in Brazil. Was into off road dirt bikes when a young man. Always interested in hot cars but not interested in restoring antiques and hunting down impossible parts. And I love raodsters. Am 42 now and will have a cobra by 44. I'm going to do it while I'm still able! always young, Steve

Hi ,I'm 35.Saw my first cobra at a car show in Huntington (1977)ish ,I think it was a "replica" It was the only car at the show I was interested in! I could not believe "the perfect car"! The owner had it roped off.My father was not as interested,It was a "kit"you know. I guess he thought it was some volkswagon creation.
Tried to buy one in 1981(not knowing)but for 80k I new it was not going to be.1998 saw an add for a reproduction,A company in Florida found on computer they were in trouble.Found a company close by and went with it .Could you imagine ordering a roller and waiting 9 months with out knowing about club cobra! |
First COBRA I ever saw on I-94 and this green thing thing went flying by at 100+ mph, It took me about 80 miles to catch up to it at an exit we both had turned off at for gas. I found it to be a COBRA and realized then and there thecar of my dreams. It has taken me 37 years and 5 different Shelby GT-350's but I finally have the KING!!! I am now 55 yrs young.

Looks like I am among the old guys http://clubcobra.com/ubb/smile.gif I am not a Cobra owner or builder....yet. My first look at a Cobra was on the floor of a Ford dealer in Portland, Oregon in 1964. It was a basic 64 Cobra 289 using the same 271 hp 289 that was in the 64 Fairlane I was driving then. Best I recall the sticker on that Cobra was something like $6395. Can't count the times I wished I had the funds to buy it on the spot! At this point I am just thinking about building a Cobra. I've been in the import auto repair business since 1966, and since 1993 have had my own shop.
Almost retired now, will be 62 in 10 days. |
