I started my Cobra when I was 28, I am 30 now. Hopefully I will have it full running in a couple of years

God I hope it isnt a mid-life crisis, I am only 18:confused: Well to be honest, my dad and I are building this car to do one last big thing before I become a sophomore in college. He and I have done so many projects that I wonder if they will ever end. I sure hope not. Well anyway to get back to your question, my dad finally realized that I was born to work on cars, the day I designed my first concept car. He was really impressed being an engineer and all, and since then he has been very supportive of my obsession:JEKYLHYDE

I am starting my FFR this winter, and hopefully will have it done this coming summer. I shall keep you posted:MECOOL:

How exactly do you rationalize that one? I would have to disagree.. :p

BLACKJACK 10-30-2003 08:33 PM

THE WAY YOU "DON'T GET OLD" IS TO DIE.

FRANKLY - AS BIG A PAIN IN THE A$$ THAT GETTING OLD IS I DO PREFER IT TO THE ALTERNATIVE - - AT LEAST FOR NOW.

Blackjack: Do you read the obituaries in the paper first thing in the morning and, not seeing your name, continue with your day? lol !!!

BLACKJACK 10-31-2003 05:09 AM

I NEVER LOOK AT THE OBITS. I'M AFRAID THAT I WOULD FIND MY NAME THERE. THAT WOULD OPEN UP THE BRANCHES OF A WHOLE NEW DECISION TREE.

I'm with you, Blackjack. I can't imagine anything worse than waking up dead some morning. It would certainly take the shine off your day!

I was working as a summertime "gopher" in a Ford dealership in a small Kansas town in 1965-66 when the Ford sales rep rolled in with a 427 Cobra on a trailer. The local highway patrolman was in the service department having his patol car serviced. He asked the Ford guy how fast the car would go. The answer was "I don't know". The trooper said, "Want to find out?" The rep said, "Sure, but I'm not going to drive it. It scares me.". The Service Manager pointed to me and said, "He drives sports cars, is it OK if he drives it?". (I was driving a '59 bugeye Sprite at the time. Comparable, right?) The rep said, "If he works here it's OK".

When the trooper's car was ready and the Cobra was off the trailer, the trooper, the rep, the service manager, and I went out on highway 96 and ran the car past the radar. Many times! Every one of us ended up driving the Cobra, including the trooper, until it was nearly out of fuel. I didn't know what the redline was, so I didn't run it over 5000 rpm in 4th. The trooper made the fastest pass, although our 30 second training on police radar operation might have played a part in that.

My most vivid memory is rolling along in 3rd gear at 80+, snapping the secondaries open, and fishtailing. Wow!

I have lusted after a Cobra ever since. Now at 54 years old I have the means and the facilities to build a replica of that Cobra. Hopefully by spring I'll be re-living that memory.

era427tp 11-28-2003 11:26 AM

At 51 having owned my Cobra for 13 years,as a reward for not going racing full time I remember the adage......."the older I get the faster I was":
