Ok..Why not one more person. I'm 30 years old and actually started my Cobra when I was 23. The first one was a CMC but got cancelled due to a lack of parts caused by a lack of a manufacturer. The second one, and the one I own today, is a Midstates. It's a wonderful car. The best part is the look on the older guys faces when they see someone so young driving a Cobra. That act surprised that I even know what a Cobra is.

I'm 60 going on 18...Wife allowed me to buy ERA for 59th birthday in Oct 1999...BTW, that was after 4 1/2 years of research & putting over 100k miles on my frequent flyer card. (free first class upgrades are nice)...She (wife) was supposed to buy me a Harley Fat Boy for 60th b-day, but was afraid I'll kill myself, so no bike. Has anybody figured avg. age yet???

Nearly 2 years ago this thread got started with a simple ?.
It has evolved into a great story of life, humor, and love of our Cobras.
The personal stories of loss and triumph, the stories of when I first saw... the stories of saving and dreaming, have made this thread truly special.
Thanks to all of you that have contributed, just think, a thread of over 10 pages and not one flame!
I am now 2 years older, (42) which makes me amost dead on the average. Been married for almost 22 years and have three wonderful kids.
Art asked that this thread never ends, we have many new members that have not contributed yet, please do so!
The offical average as of January 24, 2001 at 8:23PM PST is -------- 42.15.
Thanks all,
Scott S

Scott, this is by far the best and longest thread! BTW, you don't look a day over 30, and I was totally surprised when I met your son a year or so ago....I figured at the time, that you got started a bit early.
Great thread!

I'll be 61 in May. My wife would never let me own a motorcycle, so I bought a four wheel Harley (FFR1358K) instead.

I'm 18 and building a cobra, I'm planning on putting a potent small block ford in it. I have a friend who is 16 who is building one as well. We both have a teacher from school who has a mold to make the bodies (talk about getting "lucky" huh.) The main problem we have is the frame, where can we get plans for them. We want mustang II suspension. Please help, I can't do much more without a frame!!!

My wife says I'm twelve... My reply "AM NOT". Her reply "You are too" My reply "Huh AAAHH". Her reply "Yes your are!" That's when I usually get mad and pull out my trusty home made sling shot "which is always in my right rear pocket" shoot her in the A$$ and run out and hide in my the shop.
What does she know!!

1/2 century this past December. Loved Cobras since 1967. Hope to start on one within the year. Still feel 18.

What an awesome thread with GREAT stories. Always loved the snakes, just realized what the kit business had turned into. Gotta peer at work buildin' a Lone Star kit and I GOTTA HAVE ONE. The wife ask me what the anti-venom was....I think you gotta have a Snake, (with some horses), before you can get any anti-venom. She's the greatest and we'll have fun, mid-life? Yea, turned 41 on Groundhog day, she's just now 30 though and promises to keep me young, oh yea!!

I know a little bit about buying birthday presents for myself. I just purchased my cobra last month for my 30th birthday. Actually my wife has been pushing me to buy this thing. I think I was driving her nuts with all of the Cobra info sitting around the house. I have looked at more books and researched this car more than anything in my life. It's been fun, and still is!

At 50 looks like I'm slightly above the average age.
Don't think I was having a mid life thing (my wife thinks so because of the $ spent). I was simply looking for something to do in my time off from the job. As it turns out I have built RC Pattern airplanes for some 20 years. Completing my Cobra added a new challange that was missing. Now if I can learn to drive the car competitively like I fly the RC planes.

I don't think any of you can beat 15, I'm not even old enough to drive, but I know my cars. Whether you've been researching automobiles your entire life, or you don't know a Chevy from a Porsche, the finest gift from god, the Shelby Cobra, should be on the top of any mans wish list. My age may drop your average some, but I shouldn't be saying anything new. If you old fogies think your packing something heavy that would impress me, go ahead and email.

38 and two weeks puts me slightly below the average but still in the majority of Cobra fans. Will be driving by 40, hopefully way before 40 then I can become GASKETMAN
This can't be a second-childhood thing for me as I am pretty sure I'm not done with my first yet.

I'm 36 and I bought my B&B cobra last summer.
In Jr. high my best friend showed me a picture of a cobra and informed me that it was the greatest car ever built. I soon realized that he was right and I admired them for decades. Two years ago I saw a replica cobra at a car show and asked the guy what one would cost. It was a little beyond my budget, but I started investigating anyway.
A few months later, my victorian house which I had been restoring for 10 years, was burned by painters stripping paint. 10 years down the toilet! I realized God has only given us a few years here and nothing we have is permanent. To keep my mind off my house fire problems, I started researching more seriously. My wife was very understanding and I was able to buy a factory-built car (I had enough projects with my house).
Yes, I could use the money for something more practical, but I can't imagine anything more fun. I don't regret buying my cobra one bit. My heart still races everytime I look at it, and I say to myself "I can't believe that awesome machine is mine."
