Default New member needs help

I am a brand new member and this is my first effort at 'Posting a Thread' on 'All Cobra Talk' forum.

I need your help.

I was 18 in 1962. That was when I saw a picture of my first Cobra and I fell madly in love with it. I have always wanted one. The closest thing I could get to it were pictures around my house and toy replica's on the bar.

I am now 63 and am finally in a position to fulfil my dream. I ordered the body/chassis unit yesterday from R.M.C. in Western Australia and the engine/gearbox from Holden in Victoria. My motor is a brand new 6 litre 307kw LS2 Gen 4 V8 thumper through a 6 speed Triptronic Auto Box. I have ordered 17 x 8 & 17 x 11 Vintage brand knockoff mags from the States. I shouldhave a rolling chassis by December. I have black and gold tags
COB-600 ready to go on when the car is registered.

I have waited 45 years for this and I'm like a kid in a lolly shop.

My biggest problem is correctly identifying my selecvted body colour. It is a particular shade of red with gold stripes, but I'm having problems identifying the red colour/paint batch number etc. I have a photo which I have attempted to attach, but can onlt reduce it to 41.3kb. The maximum allowable on the 'Forum' is 39.1kb.

If anyone out there thinks they can possibly help this poor old Aussie, they can email me on barryandmartha@iprimus.com.au and I will reply with a photo of an identical coloured Cobra which I want identified for the colour red.

As we in Aussie Land now talk in Kilowats and Nm's etc, can someone also tell me how many cubic inches a 307 kw GMH Gen 4 V8 is and what would be the horsepower. I still think in 'Horsepower" and 'Cubic Inches,' even though we changed over to metric a long time ago.

Australia is importing G.T.O.'s to the States for G.M. with the same motor, but these have been detuned slightly to around 296 kw.

Looking forward to your reply,

Baz

There are 748 watts = 1 Hp or 0.747 Kw = 1 Hp.

I do not recall the exact coversion from ltr to cubic inches but as a loose rule of thumb I use 60 cubic inch per ltr. I little bit more accurate conversion the 1200 cc (1.2 ltr) Harley Davidson engine is 74 cubic inches, so that would be 61.7 cubic inch per ltr.

I know a litre is approx 62 cubic inches. ex.. a 289 is 4.7L and a 302 is 5.0L
I believe an LS7 is at least 400 hp. You could probably go on to the GM site (USA) and get the exact figures. If you are looking for the original red try the SAAC site, they could help. Otherwise try a local paint supplier. Good luck and have fun. Bruce

The LS2 is shipped from GM rated at 400 hp at 6,000 rpm and an equal amount of torque at 4,400 rpm. The redline is 6,500 rpm, but it's all done building power by 6,000 rpm. Remember that this is an engine designed for an emission-compliant production car, so the camshaft is pretty conservative, and the heads, while excellent in many regards, are designed to flow enough to support this camshaft. The factory LS2 also runs a 65cc combustion chamber and a stout 10.9:1 compression ratio.
The LS2 is 350 Cubic inches

Thanks for the technical info Dan. That helps me a lot. All I have to do now is work out what colour is my desired finish for the duco.

All the best

Thanks for the technical info Dan. That helps me a lot. All I have to do is work out the colour and batch No. of my preferred duco. It's a kind of a rusty, burnt red with gold GT stripes over the centre.

Thanks again

Baz.

SAAC is the Shelby American Automobile Club site.

They have a link here just do a search or go on the web. site.

It costs about $50 or $60 a year to join and you get a large newsprint club newsletter every couple of months. They also have some great magazine on Shelby etc.

I was at the SAAC event in Fontana California recently and had the opportunity to see dozens of genuine GT500 Mustangs, original Cobrs and GT40's. SAAC runs two events each year the last being on the east coast. Worth a visit.

Rick Kopec is the best contact at SAAC. saac@saac.com

The colour can be matched at any paint shop if you can get a PPG code. I wanted Guardsman Blue and once I found the code Doug Pearse in Lilydale Victoria was able to match it and paint the colour. It was spot on.

Here's a photo of the Cobra at the panel shop just after paint with the jewellery on it..

I am posting this for Barry until he can get a larger picture or so into his gallery. This is the color of paint that he wants.

Ok mate. Now the car that Ron61 has posted is owned by Trevor Simkins from Shepparton, Victoria. From memory it is one of the RC cars that has now gone out of business.

I will PM you with Trevors mobile/cell phone number. You will find him to be an excellent source for injection and engine management.

Say Hi to Trevor for me..

PM heading your way.

Bernie,

Thanks for helping Barry. I had a feeling that once you saw the car you may have an idea of where it came from and who he could contact to find out about the paint and other things. Guess I owe you one.

Bernie,

Any time you are in Northern Calif. give me a shout and we will have more than the two bears. Everything is pretty well here except it is summer and the heat is a bit**. Funny, how as I get older it really bothers me more each year.

Ron,

And I see the fires are on again there.

I have sent a PM to Baz with all of Trevs details and I know he will look after him with paint codes etc.

Bernie,

Thanks. And yes the fires are really starting to get bad. Hardly no rain all Winter, no snow pack in the mountains, and this hot dry wind really makes it bad. It is like sitting on a powder keg waiting for it to blow. And with the canyons around here they can't even get in to fight the crown fires but just have to let them go until they reach a place where they can use equipment and people.
