barrett listed cobra
It is described as having a 3060 vin until the real one was found so it was issued a special construction title?
Huh????? http://www.barrett-jackson.com/appli..._LotNumber=811 |
aluminum body or fiberglass ?
|
It's the fake CSX3060. CSX3060 was one of the "completion cars", which were the ones where Carroll claimed to have leftover chassis from the 60s, when in reality he had Mike McCluskey build them new. That car went to Japan, and along the way someone got the bright idea to make another and it was passed off at some time as the real one CSX3060. This is that car.

This impeccable example of a 1966 427 Shelby Cobra S/C was previously titled and registered as CSX3060 until it was determined another CSX3060 existed. At that time this car was issued an Arizona special construction VIN AZ303358. This is a spectacular re-creation of the legendary Shelby 427 Cobra. Period correct tube chassis and alloy body finished in Guardsman Blue. Powered by a 427 Ford engine coupled to a 4-speed transmission, real pin-drive knock-off wheels, 36 gallon fuel tank, 3-point roll bar, side pipes and correct S/C instrument layout unique to the competition and S/C cars. Dash is autographed by the legend Carroll Shelby. This car is period correct in every detail and was prominently displayed in a world-class museum/collection until recently.

Just sold for $105,000
|
Seemed cheap all things considered???
|
Shelby's 1st MG race car just sold for $285,000 (was owned by a family friend).
Ron Pratt bought it ....Gee, what a surprise. I'm sure it will sit right next to the $5 million dollar Cobra he purchased in '07 for his private collection. |
I saw it go across tonight... beautiful car.
|
Apparently the fake CSX3060 is black listed in California and cannot ever be registered in CA.

I thought the general atmosphere of the 'Vegas BJ was comparatively subdued on Thurs and Fri. Lots of empty seats in the bidders area. Too many "well bought" comments regarding purchase prices; maybe reality has arrived at BJ? Sat. had its moments of exuberance; but no real "homeruns" like past Scottsdale events. Maybe the "meltdown" has found its way into BJ? The price of the Shelby repop was about what the market could handle, nuthin' special.

The fake 3060 should be able to be registered the same as any replica Cobra. One piece of info I don't recall seeing, is WHO actually built the fake 3060. |
Are you saying that CSX3060 isn't a "real 1"?
|
I was at BJ Saturday afternoon with my 11 year old. I saw the car in question and it is NOT completely accurate. Even though the guages might be in the right places, they were not the correct guages. It did not have a reverse speedo, among other things. Nice looking car though.
They had most of the cars outside under the tents, but a few were in the inside exhibition area, including that cobra and the MG. They had a few Factory Five Cobras, one Backdraft, one F5 Daytona and more Mustangs/Camaros/Vettes than you could imagine. Most of the "sold" cars were outside. They would stage the cars outside for detailed inspection and then bring them in for the auction. It was fun to see my 11-yr old's reaction. He was in heaven. We just re-did his bedroom in car stuff and he almost had me talked into buying a framed poster of Shelby with his signature for $750. |
I was a bit curious as to the B-J claim that this car was "built in the 70's." Huh???
|
so dont forget the 10-12% buyers premium. so out the door it is say 117K.
The question remains , this is a 30 year old recreation/continuation that has been placed into a questionable history status through AZ DMV haveing to Tattoo it in such a way that it is 'just another chassis'. yes it has the history of being "CSX3060" for a time --whatever that really means. In this market, -- I just think it is too much money. you can probably get a NEW CSX for less in the current secondary market. |
No, the Barret CSX 3060 is not a "REAL 1". To be a "REAL 1" it has to be a genuine Shelby, either original, completion or continuation series or an "AC Cobra" built under proper license from Shelby.
One CSX 3060 is a genuine Cobra the other one is a copy of a Cobra having no Shelby or AC pedigree. End of story. Have a nice day. |
I don't hang much here anymore, can't stand the constant name calling and disrespectful tone CC has largely degenerated toward, but this thread caught my eye...
IF in fact the BJ car was one of the 'Completition Series' car built by McC FOR Shelby to sell, it is in fact a "Real 1", a genuine Shelby creation. Having McC build it is no different than having someone in Mexico, South Africa, Vegas or Poland be involved in the build. It's still a Shelby at the end of the day IF Shelby ordered it be made. IF the modern 'Continuation Series' cars, produced by various outlets and FINAL assembly done by a 'dealer', not Shelby directly, are 'real', then the BJ car qualifies as even 'more real' being done by McC/Shelby combination WITH final assembly done in house! Amazingly low price for this car, period! Even with it's notorious history, which makes it even more interesting in my opinion. As Ron (Computerworks) mentioned, what if it's the Brian Angliss built version? OK, then it's not a "Real 1", but it's pedigree is rock solid! A fascinating history built by a legend within the Cobra world to SPITE Shelby! It should have gone for considerably more than the selling price regardless of wether McC or Anglis built it. But it's pretty clear ONE of them did. If it's NOT a McC or an Anglis car, someone paid to much! It's not even an 'accurate' build when you come right down to nit picking it. :D |
Excalibur: Ditto as to why I also don't hang out here much anymore.
If its a genuine Shelby, whether final fit up was by a dealer or in house at SAI doesn't matter. In the end its a genuine Shelby. Period. Thats all you need to know. Takes care. |
In the end, if you don't get out there and beat your car now, there will come a time when you are no longer able to. So my advice is: regardless of of whether or not your car is Real enough or not, get out there and Beat the Hell out of it!!! Because when you croak, the first thing your beloveds will do is sell the car anyway. LOL
