Mark Gerrish had a fab shop in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. If memory serves me correctly he made just a handful of Cobras, back in the mid-to-late '80s. I think he has since relocated to the Twin Cities area where he still plies his craftsmanship customizing high dollar European cars, limos. A true artist with metal, he can create anything you want, and to standards that exceed the originals!

Remember that event well...a local guy from Rochester was the bottle rocket instigator. And the police were perhaps also responding to the Burnout/drag race event that had started up on Michigan Drive with the shutdown lane being the entry to the Fairlane Center. A good time was had by all until it got a little out of hand and the gendarmes were forced to "shut it down".

Actually Jay did not have his car at Dearborn that year, Mark was not done with it yet but he did drive Mark's car around. For some years after that event when Jay came to Buffalo he would call and leave tickets/backstage passes for us to visit. A real car/goodguy who hit the bigtime.

Try these guys. They seem to always be involved in SOHC's, both in cars and for sale stand-alone. They are on Ebay all the time.

I want one, but I would speculate that the SOHC engine they have on eBay will sell for the price of two new all-aluminum 482's. Way too much money for me. Thank you for the "heads up."

Expect to pay in the $30-40k range, the price of a decent new car....

How about $60K!

I decided to inquire with them about a SOHC engine they're currently auctioning off on Ebay.

Let's see. I could either have a GT40 roller or just an engine.

For $60K I'll figure out how to adapt SOHC valve covers to the existing heads and have fake plug wires running into them. The Kirkhams can make anything...they'd get the job.

We're talking about "awsume" with two legged girlfriends or four?

I have one in my contemporary.I recently pulled it out for a total restoration of the car. The sohc is original Ford but after Art Chrisman (engine builder) checked it over it was decided to use repo. parts. Robert Pond al. block, billet crank,Bill Coon's aluminum heads,Hilborn electronic stack injection.I am rebuilding the original myself for a steel 1932 full fendered 3 window coupe.

I'm sure it will never happen, but I would love to own an original SOHC. To me, they're the ultimate Ford engine. I may look into the reproduction SOHC route, but I'm very happy with my 482.

I know a guy that had four of them, still in crates. Two were "S" series and two were "T" series. One ended up in a '61 Galaxie Starliner (my old car), and the other three are out there in a T-Bolt and two Cobras. The cam timing chain is the most fun; it can give you fits if you're not a seasoned Cammer guy.
Good luck with your search. They're out there. It's just the "want" vs "need" vs "can I afford it?"
