I'm not an exhaust expert (nor do I play one on TV), but the stock collector on the SPF looks like it's rather inefficient by today's standards. It looks like it just dumps all four header pipes together with no thought or intention of making the flow efficient - compare it to a true "merge" collector, and I think there's a big difference.
