Oh, I have assured my wife that I could make this work "safely" and that his booster seat is designed for lap belts but she suggested that I not pursue that line of conversation any longer as it wasn't going to happen.
In reality, it's not a heck of a lot safer than taking your 3yr old for a ride on the back of a Harley (assuming you could somehow attach a car seat....) 
I'll wait a while. I'm just happy to have the car.
