Beautiful colors on your car, what engine are you going with? Good luck with your build.

I've had this Roush 402R sitting in my garage for about 8 months now, searching for the right car to put it in...finally gave up on finding a "started" kit, and decided to go for the SPF. (You can see the motor sitting in front of the SPF in one of the pictures.) I'm very pleased with it - beautifully done, 'way better than I could have done it, for sure.
That's an amazing-looking powerplant you have there! Did you build it? Hope it runs as good as it looks!
Thanks, Mark.

Thanks for the compliment,
My son and I have been working closely with my builder for about 7 months now.
He won't work on it unless Andy or I are at his shop to participate. I have done my fair share of engines but this is my first FE and I thought it important to get the kids involved and gain some understanding of engines and how they work. Its a 427 side oiler that started out as a raw block. We route all the parts through our home for inspection and then take them to the builders shop. Andy has gotten to learn a lot, everything from how hone a cylinder to measuring valve spring height to doing the port and polish work on the heads together. It really has been fun.
What made you finally decide on the SPF, we are still in the review stages of which car company to go with, a lot of good ones out there.

Congrats. Now your work starts.
Are you going to the Carefree Skyranch show this weekend?
I will try to stop by and look at your car this week.

Hi Mark - yep, can't call that an "engine" - it's definitely a powerplant! Great project for you and son - looks like fun. I certainly would not take on a project like that without the professional help you have enlisted.
I was about to start a FFR, when I got invited to the local dealer's open house. A very good guy was there who had a Mk III with a Roush 402 installed. We talked a bit, then he asked if I'd like a ride. But what he meant was would I like to drive it - he handed me the key! That was it for me. I ordered an inbound one the next week. I had researched the various options for the past year or so, and am helping a friend with his FFR. He's a racer for whom I have the utmost respect (30 some-odd SCCA Nat'l championships). Last year he drove a SPF for a friend and helped him set it up for the track, and was impressed with the handling and quality (he's not easily impressed). I decided that at my age, it was better to get the completed chassis (I'm even undecided about buying green bananas at my age!). There's still plenty of work to do and lots to learn about the installation of the drive train. The quality of the SPF is very impressive, and I have a great drive train for it. The dealer here is wonderful and supportive. Summing up: build quality, handling potential, dealer. If things go well, next winter I want to build a race-only FFR spec racer, and save this one for posing!

Thanks cobish! Come on up and take a peek if you like. Give me a call before, as I'll be in and out.
I'm undecided about this weekend, but will come if I can. Might get to the meeting tonight at 5ndiner.
