There was someone doing them in NZ a while ago.

Graham Berry was making the chassis and some other fabricator was doing the body.

I don't know too much more though.

I rang Rmc last week and they said there still a couple of months away from getting passed through all the ADR rules .He said those two shells are sold.He said it has cost them $30000 to get them to make the changes for Adr rules and still will be passed on in the kirkham list price plus shipping/taxes.I will wait and see if they get these cars passed,i have heard the
y have had these two shells for two years.They are the distributor for Australia

I think he means...

....add $30K to the price you'll pay to have Kirkham ship the car to OZ including Freight, and Customs tax etc... (this is to cover the cost of engineering to ADR specification, seats, lights, frame strengthening, side intrusion, etc...).

Then add your engine, box, etc to register...

Suffice to say - Sum total probably in excess of $150K and that is now with the AUD at parity. Nice car... but pricey...

PS: Also you'll need to upgrade to stainless frame, as this is the frame that they are trying to pass.
As well as the same suspension arms etc... list is endless.

RMC seem to keep putting off the Compilance deadline date.
I'm not sure if they are winning the battle with compliance or not.

When i spoke to them ,i told them there website is rubbish.He said there working on that also

the indicative price i was told was around the 220k mark, so if they are both sold they probably got their money, soulman said his cost 300k plus to import.

A very nice car. Really, the question in Australia is not what we need to pay, but how much such a car is worth to a person here. It is not any kind of value for money at 4 or 5 times that price.

The Kirkham is the real deal.......It's a pity to butcher a true Cobra

My trophy racecar everytime fired up results in a Sh$$ eating grin on my mug which grows ear to ear with each ride

I've seen this grin reflected on the faces of others at the car gatherings.....seems many share the glory days of the 60's.

Our leaders prefer us on roller skates...We're told we must conserve fuel

I suppose so Air Force One can continue to fly our Commie in Chief with entourage around the globe

The right to enjoy automobile heritage must be preserved outside of museums.

Would love to own a Kirkham one day, but they dont make it easy hear.

I dont know if ya can do that anymore Bernie.
To pass onto club rego the car needs to be roadworthy, and a new vehicle in L/H drive is not roadworthy.

Or it needs to be more than 25 years old, this is the loop hole where some cars where bought in, but that has now been closed.

Or owned it, insured it, registered it in US for longer than 12 months then you can bring it over also. It must pass ADR but can be left handed from what I have been told.

I have been investigating this option myself... again like everything, it is doable but easier said than done. Even with the revised 90 day Club Plate laws due early 2011.

...and then you're still at the mercy of laws retrospectively changing, meaning you're stuck holding a baby you can't get on the road... and no one will buy from you as they'll encounter the same problems.

In regard to Boxhead's comment, in Victoria at least, the Roadworthy Check list doesn't state anything about the requirement of a vehicle needing to be RHD or that it is unroadworthy if LHD. More that the steering is free from defect yada-yada, etc, etc... But, I'm sure they'll find some other obstacle in front of you.

In regard to Macloft's comments... I'm still not sure how this can be done?
I have no personal experience with this, but have also heard similar things with guys bringing in cars from OS (not Kirkham, typically Mustangs & Vetts, Skylines even)...

BUT... If you need to meet ADRs a Kirkham wont qualify... Their Chassis is good for only about 2500Nm/deg (as confirmed by David K) which is about 2000Nm/deg short. So it will fail the first step at Torsion & beam test.
Which means large expense trying to engineer the Chassis and getting suspension etc through Eng for ADRs.

Has anyone got any other ideas?
I'd be curious to know.

I have not read anything hard and fast but if it is "ok" to register left hand why do companies do left to right conversions?
I thought it was a requirement on new cars (less than 25 years old)?
