Great to see Phil, the orphan is really looking like a sweet ride for its new Mummy and Daddy.

Default The worry is over.

The orphan now runs, I was concerned to see whether the intake mods would work.

Everything works fine, exhaust is nice and quite and the gilmer is a bit noisy.

Nice. I was wondering how loud it would be. Might need to change it for noise test.

How did you find the gmpp controller? Installation, length, looks etc?

Liam,

The controller kit is great, Just had to shorten not lengthen wires.

Took a bit to sort it out to make it neat but easily done, just time.

Started first kick.

Hi Phil,,Congats on 'The Orphan'. You've done a quality job. The new owner will be wrapped.

Can you give me some ino on the Gilmer setup?

Which model did you get to fit the LS motor?

Are they available for sale here or do you have to order them in from the manufacturer in the States.

If they are avilable here, name and contact details of the agent please.

Baz

Default One off

HI Baz,

The whole gilmer drive and intake are a one off, there is no kit you can buy.

I may have gone the long way arround but really wanted a look that had some hints of an authentic layout. thenrestriction was to make sure it runs on the factory system, all factory sensors are used including the MAF. So it is still emissions complient but as Liam has mentioned the gilmer drive is a bit noisy.

A gilmer drive is not hard, Aussie mike has done something similar with a ribbed belt. the issue is the water pump rotation direction. I think Mike had machined up a New impeller as other options for a clockwise rotation pump do not fit with the intake manifold.

As a quick guide the parts needed, Stewart water pump, custom ATI harmonic balancer and Hub, chev gilmer drive set, air filter assembly, custom intake tube, custom air filter base, billet fuel rails a custom fabbed header tank.

The manifold has many alterations to make it work, you cannot just reverse them, its not hard but there are things you have to do. the pump have been milled to the correct spacing from the block and every part of the stock gilmer set has been machine to fit.

The end result is something unique and looks so much better in real life and sounds brilliant. The cost approximately $3500.00 in parts and way too many hours of work.

It was something that I wanted to see if it could be done but as with everything on this car, you would think i was going to keep it.

Phil

Just curious Phil, The exhaust is under car ? Has cats ? What sort of mufflers ? If side pipes do they have cats and what sort of baffling ?

Hi.
I've just got my CR. I've just ordered some wheels from American republic.
The best backspace is 7 inch on a 10 inch wheel. hope this fits. What are your specs? Very nice build.

Thanks for the info Phil. There is a bit more to it than I thought. My first impressions was to just unbolt the stock parts and install the billeted Bilmer gear, but I have have since established that there is a lot more to it than that as you have so accurately pointed out.

Thanks for the info.

You can quiet those gilmer drives down by drilling a small hole in the middle of each groove in the pulleys. The noise is caused by the air getting pushed out as the belt engages each tooth as the pulley turns. Drilling the hole gives the air an escape path. It will still whine but not as loud.

Also you can loosen the belt a little and it will quiet down. They don't need to be that tight as it's the teeth that transmit the power rather than friction like a V belt setup.

Cheers
