Well after much waiting, with any luck (not that I have had any lately) my Billboards will be arriving tomorrow with my buggy.
So the Cobra went on the hoist today for a bit of work, fitted a few bits and pieces and am now looking to mount my oil cooler.
So I am wondering what is "correct" as far as angle of cooler (straight upright, cantered forward or backward) also what is correct as far as height?
Does the top flat section (of cooler) sit roughly level with radiator mouth? Or higher/lower?

Cheers all.

As per my prediction, Billboards did not turn up (no luck) nor has the buggy.
So the weekend was spent tinkering on Cobra and cleaning shed.
I fitted up some lights I bought off Phil, then chased a noise that has developed in the rear end.
The noise was at road speed so I was hoping it was a dragging handbrake shoe or the like, after pulling it all apart, what I found was that the brake pads are falling apart, the material has gone very powdery, not sure if it was the cause of the noise? but they are replaced, rotors scuffed and handbrake shoes sanded. Could not test drive as the rain has started out here (much needed but a pain in the backside).
Then I made a start on the oil cooler mountings, have decided to set it low and upright. So making brackets etc at the moment and ordering fittings now.

It will sit about 20mm higher than this.

More shiney bits.

boxhead 05-21-2013 03:39 PM

Got the cooler in last night, and started on the plumbing of hoses.
Had to stop at this point as the oil hose adapter to block does not fit.

So I really think I will be buying one of the Improved Performance ones.

A co worker saw the trailer lights on the back and asked "Is it registered"

I took it home and lunch time and unloaded, had to do a quick trip around the block before driving into shed :-)

boxhead 05-23-2013 11:17 PM

Rog246 05-24-2013 02:12 AM

Dave, whats the construction of those things?
I mean they kinda look like they are cross ply or bias belted or are they a radial ply.
Not trying to be a smart arse (ass) just wondering `çause they look like REAL Old School tyre design to me
Rog

BJ's Snake 05-24-2013 02:34 AM

Gotta love the look, who cares how they handle.....
Good on ya Dave

Cheers

boxhead 05-24-2013 05:42 AM

Rog, they are very very old school tyre design.

Fitted them up tonight, went for a drive.
They are as noisy as hell, they tramline like a biatch.

But by fark they look fantastic.

Sorry to be a downer...but is the goodyear billboard painted on ? it looks like one is scrubbed off. I cant remember but there is a code somewhere on the tyre that states the date of manufacture...check that out. Lots of road noise seems to say "old"

Rog246 05-25-2013 05:27 AM

Okay Dave- how long has it been since you've driven on a performance X-ply
tyre then ? (now that's an oxymoron if ever there was !!?!)

As a suggestion I would ask some of our American friends what specs they use for wheel alignment
Think you'll find the tyre won't like much neg camber and they'll probably want more toe as well.
Just a thought
Rog

boxhead 05-25-2013 02:53 PM

You are correct Rog, I have no idea what are correct pressures or alignment settings for these tyres, and I am sure that it can be improved.

The tyres are not "old" Rob, the noise is purely due to the pattern on the tyres.
When I get to the car today I will check the date.
And yes, the white is painted on by a stencil (with a raised section in the area or the stencil), to me the "rough" look of the blotchy paint just adds to the "look" of a dirty rotten race car.

Yesterday when I dropped the car at the show, I overheard a 10 year old (about that age) drag his Mum over to my car and say "wow Mum, look at the race car", now I know he is only a kid, and probably called it a race car because of the stickers and numbers, but that is the exact thing I want people to think when they see the car, it made me as happy as a dog with 2 tails.

More crappy Iphone pics, I hope to get some good ones after the car show with proper camera.

Jaydee 05-26-2013 04:17 AM

What happened to your small windscreen?
JD

Zedn 05-26-2013 04:34 AM

looks awesome!

boxhead 05-26-2013 02:20 PM

Ben, they are fitted to 15 inch rims.

Jaydee, the small screen is hanging up on my shed wall, Takes about 30 minutes to swap from large screen to Aero screen.

Cheers Zedn.

After yesterdays car show (where I happened to pick trophies for "best race car" (Cobra) and best offroad racer (Trophy Kart)
I snapped some pics out on the grass carpark.
(Warning, your about to be bombarded by a proud Dad)
