I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the seats and door cards.

Door cards are the originals going back on (hence painting door frames black)

Same with the seats (they require a good clean, and sadly there is a split seam on drivers base) I may drop a Mexican blanket on the seats.

Been busy plugging away.
Show is rapidly approaching.

Restored "C" Pillar exterior trims before fitting.

Painted hoodlining and cleaned red trim.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5otdxada.jpg

Had a sign writer mate call in to do some striping around the color change on the roof.
He will lay some more lines after car show.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psirveaix5.jpg

Color is Chrysler Magenta.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psmbniyoim.jpg

I have converted the car to later model factory floor shift.
So I have had to make a bit of a frankenstein.
I have fitted a later model steering column, but the later columns have steering lock and key on column.
The early model (this car) has key in dash, I preferd the key in dash look.

How good does that look Dave !
George AND Mildred will be both stepping out in style.
All you need now is a couple of cushions with stylised pic's of Ayers Rock done in metallic thread for the back parcel shelf and maybe a Lawn Bowls hat between 'em  :p

boxhead 08-26-2015 04:31 PM

Some more parts have turned up in past few days.
NOS side marker lenses.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pssc3fcpl1.jpg

NOS tail light lenses.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psqqbrrcdb.jpg

Fitted up her baseball cap visor.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psi72rjfbf.jpg

Rear venetian blind (so the lawn bowls hat doesnt fade)
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pswyxwxsvj.jpg

After fitting all these bits, as well as adding a blanking plate to original exhaust manifold and fitting exhaust and intake, Mildred was airborne again, Tailshaft is in now, started on refitting brakes and replacing handbrake cables.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psefkd9f09.jpg

With any luck, next time she comes off the hoist, she will be driven off.

I feel a little inadequate with my cheap ar$e F250 build..... 'second hand and cheap as I can get it' everything.
Will this be Rondas daily driver or a 'pleasure craft' ?

Nice build by the way!

boxhead 08-26-2015 06:20 PM

Pleasure vehicle only, although I am sure she will drive it to work to show off at some stage.

I would love to find good second hand or quality repro stuff.
But sadly only repro lenses are side ones, and reports are the quality is crap.
The car has all repro seals in doors, windows, body.

There is actually a small market for quality repro tail light lenses, not sure if that is the type of thing you would do Ash? As it would only be a small run of lights to "test" the market.
But a fella in Sydney offers a small production run on injection molded lenses, waiting on a quote from him. David Azzopardi Manufacturing - Plastic Lenses

Wow, what a past week it has been.
I took this past week off work in a lst ditch attempt to have Mildred ready in time for RedCentre Nats, I can happily report, I welded the stainless steel exhaust tip on at about 10am Wednesday, with scrutineering on for 5pm Wednesday.

I also got a call from RCN people asking if I had a convertable that could be used toward the front of street cruise/parade an have a promo girl in passengers seat.
I reluctantly agreed (knowing I needed to do a few hours work on the Cobra to have it ready)
With 4 more 18hour shed days I managed a first start on Saturday mid arvo, First drive Sunday leaving fiddling, polishing, waxing (god, I am now a waxer) and adjusting to have her finished in time.
Engine bay isnt quiet finished in this pic, missing a hose or 2 and a few grommts. But it gives the general idea.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psxl1y8zm0.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps5ecmd7dc.jpg

With no time for a leather retrim, I had a work mate sew some seat tops together (these are very popular in Japan) and di a good job of hiding the sunburnt rear sea top.
She also made the pillows for a bit of fun.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psw6l7iyc6.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pshcbme7fh.jpg

And here she is Wednesday morning, after a clean up and a single coat of wax.

How did Mildred go in the burnout masters?

boxhead 09-07-2015 05:49 PM

Onto the Cobra next.
After pulling the cover off, I found plenty of dust, so I pulled out the Stihl petrol powered blower to get the dust off.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psevjkewsv.jpg

And moved him over he hoist.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pskcbzndvy.jpg

These are the Aussie Mike Murphy new steering rod ends he built for me.
I needed them to gain clearance between the tie rod end and the bulge in tyre sidewall.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psgn7uopks.jpg

Here you can see the new ends are much more compact than the old.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps6elvhfdz.jpg

So I pulled the rack out and shortened the new thicker steering rods, re tapped thread to the length I measured I needed and bolted all in place.
Here you can see I know have plenty of clearance, the original tie rod end hung a fair bit lower, and on full lock would rub against the tyre sidewall.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psejczzrut.jpg

I bought this from eBay USA many months ago as I struggle to find anyone in Alice willing to do an alignment on the Cobra (fella I used to use has left town)
I used it on Mildred Sunday and then on the Cobra Thursday, very happy and very easy to use.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psgw2htnvd.jpg

After a quick drive, all was good, so the Cobra got a bath before heading to Scrutineeing and made ready for parade.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps2pw2bcnu.jpg

Had a ball on the parade, The SummerNats guys where blown away as we had approx 380 cars in cruise (Canberra they are limited to 200)
I got a pic with the Promo girls after the cruise.

No Skids for Mildred.

But I did have to ring a waxer mate and asked him what should I buy to keep Mildred clean at the car show (having never had a shiny car on display)

boxhead 09-07-2015 07:54 PM

So whats next.
With a new found enthusiasm for tinkering with cars, next on the agenda is Myrtle (Mildreds younger Skanky sister).
Myrtle is a 1968 RT40 that will be built up as a 69 (My birth year, same as Mildred is a 67 for Rondas birth year).
Body wise on the exterior, I would like to keep as "ratty" looking as possible with lychin growing etc. Mechanically will see some mods, I have a 18RG engine with Yamaha head that used to be in a very wild off road buggy out here. I also have a 5 speed celica box to run behind it and a heavy duty clutch. Not sure on diff yet, but suspect a shortened Hilux unit will make its way under the car.
I also have a disk brake conversion for the front, but I am also planning some major suspension work with the possible fitment of airbags and custom control arms.
I may also end up removing inner guards in engine bay and making a tubular frame for support and strength (incorporating a roll cage).
A disk brake rear conversion with hydraulic handbrake is most likely as well.
Here are some bits I have gathered.

This one is a spare parts car, with the 69 tail lights that will be fitted up.

I just have a retail job to do this weekend and have a major tidy up, Then I am into this one.

letsboogie351 09-07-2015 11:47 PM

Yep! you're on a winner Dave. That pink car will pull the birds every time.

Towmaster 09-08-2015 05:48 AM

I didn't know billboards weren't road legal?
Your tie rod pic showed 'for racing use only'

Only the inside is race-only Towie. If you put them in the way Dave has they're actually fine :D

And I love your threads Dave. Nice work in Mildred. Love the roof detail matching the seat tops doilies.

The "O" is actually a dot in the line after that. The tyres actually say "N.T for highway use". Lucky you're a Territorian Dave!

boxhead 09-10-2015 04:46 PM

Those tyres are for display and circuit only Towwy.

The 17's are fitted for road use. :-)

The blue "Cruising" sticker allowed me to use these tyres in designated areas.

Same stickers (different colors) went on different cars for cruising restrictions.

boxhead 09-10-2015 04:53 PM

I forgot I had sketched this while doodling.
So the spare body will have an attempted chop first, if it works and looks ok, then I will do it on actual car.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pslhtughq6.jpg

David Hodgson 09-10-2015 08:02 PM

How about a raked chop Dave, give the side windows that tapered look. If your relocating the B pillar the rake will give it that sporty look.

boxhead 09-10-2015 08:09 PM

Yeah, that is the plan David.
Not shown in drawing, but I will lay the rear window flatter and move the base backward about 10cm to butt against boot lid.
Will also shorten the roof, I am not confident I can keep original rear screen, but I have a 78 series cruiser ute rear window cut here, this uses flat glass so can get glass cut for it easy enough.

boxhead 09-10-2015 08:13 PM

I am also keen on this in a weird sort of way.
