Looks unreal Dave. I know the Coke signs are iconic, but that Ayers Rock Tourism sign is a classic!
There's enough space for you to do a Ken Block slide in your race car - in the first door under the hoist and out through the third door.

So who was watching the Top Gear Top 41 last night then, huh....?

Aussie Mike 07-29-2014 10:14 PM

I don't know about a Ken Block slide in there but definitely room for a Ken Box slide.

Cheers

Simply Brilliant!

My little girl (3 1/2) loves the Ken Box one, it's the 'Funny man in the box', and it gets viewed a few times nightly.

Dave, those signs are great and will look awesome in you mammoth shed. More pics when you get them up and of your man cave.

A little more has been happening.
First up I was given a Lincoln MIG welder that my brother inlaw had, he prefers a stick welder for when outside.
The handle was faulty and I prefer the "feel" of a Binzel brand handle, so I bought a kit and converted the Lincoln to accept a Binzel handle.
Finished it the other day and gave it a quick test.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psfc8ae6a4.jpg

I have also been playing with RT40 Toyota Coronas (Ronda had one as a first car and decided she wanted one again, I somehow ended up with 3).
I thought I had a thread here on these, but had no luck when I went looking.
This was the first one I bought, late last year out of Brisbane.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psd16794de.jpg
Upon dismantling, the car was found to have a lot of rust, so I bought a second car from Benigo in Vic.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps8dc5336e.jpg
Between these 2 cars I now had enough to make 1 good one.
SO work commenced, but then I heard about a 1 owner car that had been put into storage and covered in blankets in 1986 and sat there until late last year when the owner passed away.
A deal was done and I bought this car, the bonus being is that this last purchase is the same year as Ronda's car, being a 67 year model.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psf141e374.jpg

Ronda is getting the 67 car, its build plan is to be something similar to what might have been done in early 70's, so I have some "period correct parts for the car.
The body color is going to be Holdens "Strike me Pink" with a white lace pattern roof, the car will get the white interior that came out of the first (69 model) car I bought in Brisbane, this car also donated the engine (I have since recoed it) and the floor shifted 4speed gearbox and blank steering column.
I have a set of "kidney bean" mags for the car and a retro style roof rack.

Engine rebuilt and awaiting carby kits and chrome parts to be returned.

Engine bay prepped for paint.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps9f554ef8.jpg
Front end out and awaiting reconditioning (I have all new joints at home waiting)

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps98554c77.jpg
Some NOS front lenses I have for the car (although I now also have a pair of US spec full amber lenses in freight now.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps03d4bb74.jpg
A flash portable wireless for the car (has built in battery and speaker, it pulls out of cradle and is locked in by the key as anti theft.

boxhead 08-21-2014 11:12 PM

It has been decided recently (some inspiration thanks to Grover) to throw the Benigo car together cheaply with a more powerful engine, keep bodywork to a minimum with basically rust removal and leaving lychons to grow.
So with the RaT40 theme I have the following stuff assemled so far.

Home made dash cluster.

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps8788ad87.png
Mags currently on a boat on there way from Japan.

Drive train is a 18RGU with Yamaha twin cam and Dellorto DHLA40 side draughts.
Celica 5spd gearbox.
Welded diff.
1600S disc brakes, with a wilwood line locker.
I have a stock red interior to fit and might get a pair of "bomber" style seats. (or make some)
this one is more for the fun of it than anything else.

So you should :-)

spookypt 08-31-2014 09:25 PM

Hey Dave, I'm sending you something. That PO Box OK to use?

Spookypt

deano59 08-31-2014 11:02 PM

I have one of those lincons I bought new a yr or so ago and there a bloody good unit built 3 race cars and 2 car trailers so far with it and it hasn't missed a beat . it even turned a spoggy **** operator ie myself into someone that can weld something that even looks half good :-) . I didn't know that you could update the hand piece tho can I ask where you got that from ?

cheers dean

I just noticed we even have the same trolley but on the bottom shelf I have my plasma cutter sitting there I also beefed the trolley up a bit as it felt a bit flimsy .

boxhead 09-01-2014 05:14 PM

Cheers Matt,
Yes the Po Box is good to use.

Hey Deano, yes the change over took me a couple of hours but was really pretty easy to do (even for a non sparky like me)
I bought the conversion kit from BOC, all pretty much bolts in, apart from having to make the hole in front plastic piece larger.
There are 2 differing kits though, as there are 2 setups from Lincoln.

boxhead 05-24-2015 06:46 PM

Well it has been a while since an update (and I have been slack doing other boring stuff). I have been winding back up into the RT40 for Ronda, and with RedCentre nats rapidly approaching in September, figured I better get a wriggle on.
2 weeks ago I cut some rust out of engine bay and associated panels, and prepped the engine bay for color.
Masked it all up this Saturday morning and got the gun out.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pssudgi9cp.jpg

A wipe down with prepsol and it was time for color.
This pic is Saturday late arvo, I reconditioned the steering box and pulled the shaft apart (all one piece) as it is easier to fit (less chance of scratches) as 2 pieces.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psfq3pnkyd.jpg

All front suspension and cross member have been painted with KBS.
Here is a lower control arm with new ball joint fitted.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psz9wqb84f.jpg

I started assembling the front end on Sunday morning, but without the engine in place, found I could not compress the spring far enough.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pstibntxhh.jpg

So I cleaned more bits and painted the gearbox (yes I know the silver is corny, but the car theme is "what would have been done in mid 70"s).
Hence also the corny yellow springs and yellow sway bar.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps1ua0jbxg.jpg

And dropped in place.
The missing bits are being chromed at the moment.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pspstfn18x.jpg

The car (a 1967 model) was originally a 4 speed column shift car, One of my donors was a floor shift car, so I decided I wanted the floor shift box.
I found that the cars have different chassis mounts for rear cross member, so here is a 67 mount with 69 centre section.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psnhoravh3.jpg

Also had to cut a hole in the floor for clearance around selector, I will make my own pabel work here as the factory floor shift boot is impossible to find and a really weird shape.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps0upywsz7.jpg

Got a pretty busy next few weeks, but then back into it full speed.

boxhead 06-14-2015 05:36 PM

Between bush work and new Puppies, shed time has been tight.
But still trying to get out there for at least a few hours on weekends.
I had these bits turn up this week from UK.
To make some period correct looking plug leads.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pservzkdck.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psio8yhfm3.jpg

Panel Beater mate was a bit light on for work, so dropped the car in to get 2 dents knocked out, I just dropped front guards in this morning too.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psv1ryq8mn.jpg

http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psg6qf45gz.jpg

These pics are after first wipe of filler, most of it was sanded away.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...pswv24qcy2.jpg

With a little free time over the weekend, I got into the carbies.

Always interesting to see what's going on in Boxshed.

Will be good to see the progress, all builds regardless of what they are are your outright great to follow.

boxhead 06-14-2015 07:21 PM

There should be (needs to be) a rapid influx of work on this RT40 over next few months, as I have set my goal at having the car ready for RedCentre Nats in early September.

deano59 06-14-2015 08:52 PM

your a machine you never stop ;-) . hows that mustang coming along ?
i love the rt 40 coronas it was one of them i experimented and hung a small turbo off yrs ago was a funn little car to drive and didnt need much boost to get it humming .

boxhead 06-14-2015 09:15 PM

Just realised I missed a days work in picture stream.
So here is a missing day.
Car sat a little high in the front, wanted to add a small amount of rake, so took what should be about 1/2 to 3/4 inch out of ride height.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psnt86tvtd.jpg

All together. Looking very "Boy Racer" with teh colors.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...ps1tgrxlpw.jpg

That pink is so bright in the sun.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...psuzkocoxm.jpg

Underside will get a coat of chassis black.

Baz 06-14-2015 09:15 PM

Hi Dave,

Haven't heard an update regarding your Cross Country Dune Racer for a while. Is it still in the stable? By the way, nice hail storm in Alice a couple of days ago. Featured on Sydney TV. The desert was white.
