Awesome Dave, attention to detail is amazing. More of this please. :)

Cobra01 02-20-2014 11:47 PM

Hi Dave

that's an awesome job of the engine and your attention to detail is very eye appealing.

You are doing a great job , If there is any criticism its the fact that you haven't posted enough photos ha ha .

Keep up the good work.

Cheers

Brad

Looking awesome. I used a core shifters relocation shifter for mine also. Perfect option for VE t56 or TR6060 gearboxes. It puts the shifter in a perfect position. Nice product for a sensational price.

Looks like your headers are going to end up like mine! Very tight.http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...0/header01.JPG

DaveW 02-21-2014 12:32 AM

Thanks for the comments all,
Zedn, yeah, i'm really happy with the shifter, nice feel and unbelievable price compared to other brands, will see how it shifts one day.
From what i remember, its Hurst parts in a custom housing.

Heres a couple of more pics of the brake hoses and oil cooler hoses and thermostat.

Great details. I love the blacked out master cylinders. The billet timing cover looks great. The 2x4 intake is a winner!
The header kit is unreal. I've never seen it before but did some searching and it is such a great idea.
Very keen to see how this build progresses. Thanks for the update.

:eek:Awesome work

Dave

LOVE the old school look on the LS. Very nice.

Did you CNC those brackets yourself?

Awesome update, attention detail is jaw dropping. The dual EFI setup is very impressive.
Keep up the great work.

DaveW 02-21-2014 05:06 PM

Yes, i made the brackets.
I bought a half finished cnc mini mill of ebay which was supposed to be running, but it was a clunker, so i've rebuilt it completely using ball nuts and shafts on all 3 axis, decent stepper motors and built myself a driver and controller cabinet.
It now runs off Mach3 control software, and i use some programs from Vectric, Cut2D, and Cut3D to create the g-code that Mach 3 needs to control the steppers.
Been a great learning curve.
Now that i have the bug, i want a bigger decent mill like Aussie Mikes to convert. :)

This is one of the canister brackets i milled up.
The machine cuts particularly well with smaller bits upto about 10mm diameter, but starts too load a bit with anything bigger unless i reduce the cut pass depth.
I dont have a cutting fluid feed at the moment, so i use crc or wd40 spray periodically.

This is the finish off the mill, super smooth, but you can see tool swirl paths.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...ps663391b7.jpg

This is what they look like after 24 hours in a vibratory tumbler, i bought this off ebay as well, jewlers use them for polishing, but the trick has been to find media that will smooth and polish the surface.
I've found little 8mm ceramic pyrimids work great at smoothing edges and polishing aluminium with only a cleanup with brasso needed to make them shine.
You can see my chassis tube brackets in this pic on the left as well.

http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...psfa2e7f95.jpg

This is the Oil Cooler bracket (mild steel) welded to the front of the chassis, also off the mill.
http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3d4ed8a0.jpg

This is the top plate to the original cooler shroud i made, but i ended up simplifying the design.
http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...psa9a6e75b.jpg

The part was longer than the mill, so i had to flip it during cutting, on the first pass, i drilled 2 small holes and some pins to use as alignment when i flipped it over.

Had a day at home by myself today, so after it got to hot doing jobs around the place, I spent the afternoon in the shed.

The Holley manifold i've got and the fuel rails are made to suit either a pico injector or the older tall LS1 style injectors, but i want to keep the LS3 ones, so i set about making an adaptor to bridge the gap from injector top to fuel rail, and to lift the fuel rail a little further away from the injector loom connecter.
http://i1060.photobucket.com/albums/...psbd5bae05.jpg
You can see the gap to bridge between the injector and the rail in this pic,
After a measure up, of the gap, manifold hole and rail holes, i made some adaptors to fit the gap, and added some new Viton O-Rings

pre assembled, just need to drill and tap the rail posts to lock it all up together.

Zedn 03-02-2014 11:48 PM

Nice work.

So are those carby looking things just throttle bodies? Ive never really looked closely at these set ups, just thought the injection was in the throttle body like a carb.

DaveW 03-03-2014 12:18 AM

Zed, yes the carby looking things are just 4 barrel throttle bodies, with Throttle position sensor and idle air control sensors included, these are for multipoint injection systems, but you can get throttle body injection units.

Aussie Mike 03-03-2014 01:48 AM

Very nice surface finish Dave, you must have that lathe dialled right in.

DaveW 03-03-2014 03:49 AM

Hi Mike, I have 2 lathes, a 60 year old one from my dad's engineering business when he shut up shop and retired in the 90's and a new one I bought about 5 years ago.
The old one finishes aluminum beautifully like the pic, it's old but super smooth, the new one is crap and I wish I never bought it, so now I just use it for plastics or MS.
I haven't really played with speeds at all yet.
Dave
