Gregg,
You cant see it in the pics, but i have laminated rubber strip to the inside of the strap, its not the usual channel type so it doesn't wrap over the edge, but is flush with strap edge.

jcraigau 03-05-2015 10:39 PM

Awesome work! Coming along a treat.

albanycobra 03-06-2015 04:59 AM

I agree, very nice work...very inspiring and love the detail with the tank straps.....Love it when stuff like this gets posted, Thank you.

DaveW 03-25-2015 09:38 PM

Not much to report in on this month other than trial fitting the Header tank i had made.
I'm pretty happy with the "Old Skool" look.
I have a week off over Easter, I plan to finish off my headers, strip and rebuild the engine loom, and plumb the power steering.
Cheers to all.

Dimis 03-26-2015 12:16 AM

Hey Dave.
What ever happened to that eightstack intake?
Not that I have anything against your 2x4 set up. :D

DaveW 03-26-2015 01:22 AM

Hey Dimis,
I very very nearly bought the Kinsler 8TB Cross Ram unit January last year when i was in the states, In fact I specifically went to Michigan to look through the factory at the invitation from Brian H.
However, while touring the states, i dragged the family to Denbeste Racing up near San Fran (you got to see this place), opening day of the new Shelby factory/showroom in LV, Backdraft in Florida, and decided I liked the "old skool" look, but with all the mod cons of current technology so i went with this theme.

I still love the look of that Kinsler piece of art thou.

Double post, sorry folks

Gav 03-26-2015 11:47 PM

The 2x 4bbl is what all the cool kids are running Dave ;)

DaveW 09-05-2015 03:47 AM

Hi all,
I'm still tinkering on the CR every chance i get.
Finished off all the cooling system plumbing, the headers are finished and i'm currently building the roll bar with an Aussie Mike special, (perfect bend).
I got the tyres fitted and balanced to the Dragways last time i was home and the chassis is now on the floor for the first time in over 4 years.
Another weekend on the rollbar and then its on with the body

It was a long time between updates and I was wondering how this was going.

Looks good, the pusher fans are at one on these builds and the 2 x 4 setup look old school cool.

gjkrv8 09-05-2015 05:45 PM

Well done Dave.

I always like the Go Cart look on these Cobras. Shame to put a body on :-)

Wheels and stance look great.

cheers Gregg

deano59 09-05-2015 09:34 PM

just a question with the throttle bodies are they drive by wire or cable if drive by wire i would love a set up the same as that for my ls

DaveW 09-06-2015 12:02 AM

Deano,
I have both on the go.
At the moment its cable, but I am in the process of making a DBW mount which forms part of the rear quad spacer.
I have it designed, and just need a bit of time in the shed to machine it up.

deano59 09-06-2015 12:44 AM

awesome i will def be following your progress on this .ive been trying to think how to make a top mount throttle body work with dbw but there does not appear to be anything on the market that i can find to do the job .

Gav 09-06-2015 05:49 AM

The FBW would be great for throttle control, I have a progressive linkage to the front throttle body to delay its opening until about 20%.
Great work as always Dave!

DaveW 09-06-2015 03:39 PM

G'Day Gav.
I also designed up a progressive adjustable cable cam, with a cable from the pedal to a 1:1 ratio pulley that is locked to another eccentric lobe that pulls another cable to the throttle bodies.
At the moment its maximum reduction is 30% at zero pull to 100% at 60deg, and full open at full pedal.
Its adjustable almost back to 1:1 by rotating the Cam and lobe.
I couldn't find anything on the market like this, I will probable have a go at making it.

Its designed to suit a Lokar throttle cable end.

Gav 09-06-2015 05:53 PM

Jeezus!!! You are taking things to the next level Dave!

Aussie Mike 09-06-2015 05:58 PM

Very nice work Dave. Reminds me of the cam setups on a compound hunting bow.

The early LS1 cable throttle bodies had an eccentric pulley on them to give a more progressive action.

Is that solid works you are using? I inquired about buying it a while back but it's about $9K but you can get the student version for about $150.

Cheers

DaveW 09-07-2015 03:08 AM

Mike, I use sketchup ver8, its free and really quick to model up parts, if i want to do serious model for CNC, or print, then i've been using Inventor, my son Tom has a student copy.
Ive played with Solidworks its similar to inventor, both have a big learning curve though.
