Looking great Dave. Looks like the passenger side should be much easier without the steering shaft in the way.

Yep, the steering shaft position is a real pain to get a nice flowing header.
Plus there isnt a lot of room to play with at cyl 4 & 8 with distance from port to foot well clearance. |

I don't know much about cars but I know what I like to see and I have never seen 4 pipes into a collector looking as good as that. Wow.

Thats true Gregg, I didn't have to modify any pieces to fit.
I did have to clean up the first piece I tried to weld, having serious issues with my TIG melting electrodes, ended up using the gasless MIG to tack it together until I sort it out. Guye, met you at TJ's the other weekend, welcome any time. |

Yes, initially an under car system using the original VE cats. After with side pipes. The ring around the 4 pipes is where the collector will separate and the 4 pipes will continue down and out. There will be a 5" V clamp on that flange. What you been up to mate ? |

great work as usual. I've got my tuner coming to my place today to hopefully complete the tune. If all goes well I can finally say I'm done, and I really do mean "done". The only other job I need to do is put the wipers on as I have already removed the fuse so they don't go on accidentally. Regards. |

Its all pugged in correct, Ben asked if i was using the right gas, which i am using Argon, and have been using for ages, but this led me to think that maybe the reg is dropping off pressure mid work. The symptoms occur after about 5 to 10 seconds of weld, (which goes well), then severe flare and next melt down. Need to check this when i get home. Dave |

Dave, I bought BOC regulators, I bought two so I could have two bottles going without stuffing around swapping all the time, I think they were about $90 each. I have an Argon bottle and an Argoshield. The reg says for Argon but it works with any Argon mix such as Argoshield. Anyway, I'm not doing much welding in the next couple of weeks as I am waiting on parts for sidepipes, so you're welcome to borrow one of the regs to confirm that your reg is the problem, if you can be bothered coming to get it you know where I am.
Both regs are only weeks old. It's odd that you're melting tungsten though. If I forget to turn on the gas (which I have 3 or 4 times) with the TIG it instantly blows a hole in the work piece but I have never melted the tungsten. https://bencobra.files.wordpress.com...1/img_1435.jpg |

Some searching on Google found the probable answers will be either as Mike said with reversed polarity, or a loss of gas, so i think the issue may be gas pressure. Ill find out on the weekend. |
TIG woes solved, the reg had a wasp and mud clogging up the gas inlet.
Not such an easy fix for my skills however. |
Mud wasps have been the cause of more than one breakdown...
I had a 5M watt boiler vibrating like a bastard recently. The main fan had a mud wasp nest on it. Given the fan was 1300mm dia and spinning at 1400revs you'd have thought he mud nest would have flown off, but nope it was stuck on like **** to a blanket!!! |
Miserable weather today, forced me from yard duties to reside in the shed. :)
I've almost finished 1 side of the headers. Today's task was to TIG up all the pipe joins, after practising for an hour or so, I attempted the first pipe, got so frustrated with my crappy efforts, reverted bag to MIG, then did a flap and file job on it to clean it all up. Fitted all the pipes back on to the flanges and tacked in place.
