Dave's CR3514 Progress
Hey Folks,
Still plodding away in the shed when i'm home, so i thought i'd post some progress pics of the engine. A before and after shot, I've posted some more detailed pics and descriptions on my blog. I'm working on the gearbox (TR6060) at the moment, custom remote bleeder etc, and a tidy up, i'll post some details shortly on my remote bleeder system. Dave, that looks gorgeous. It looks like you've shifted the engine mounts forward, I didn't know that was possible and I've never seen the coils mounted in that position, it looks fantastic, great work!

I had a similar idea with the coils. I originally had them in the foot boxes but I've found that I occasionally catch my foot on them when going for the clutch. I looked at mounting them on the block where you have yours but the way my headers run they wouldn't fit. It's also pretty tight around the starter motor. In the end I made up some brackets to mount them to the chassis rails just behind the engine mount. I was trolling your pics yesterday, to see how you had run your leads in relation to the headers. I saw the leads going through the side wall. The above shots are perfect. I may still have to move the mounts on to a chassis rail as well, the left hand side looks like i can make the header clear, on the right i'm going to measure up an indexable MSD starter to see if i can get enough clearance. Also loved your new PS pump location and bracket. Did you get the exhaust manifold to head plates locally to build your exhaust ? Regards Dave |
I plan to make up billet specialities style valve covers that cover the coils in the stock location. I would be a bit concerned about the heat from the headers in that location. You probably should make a heat shield for them if you can fit it.

The header flange plates are available commercially.
Any exhaust joint should be able to order them in. |

I had already built my headers before deciding to remote mount the coils. I probably could have made clearance if I'd built them after. I liked how I had the leads running originally through the footnboxes but after driving it they could be a bit of a nuisance. It also made getting at the steering shaft uni a bit of a pain. I figure with them mounted down low I will be able to clean up the foot boxes. This setup is better for servicing things. These days I like the idea of simplifying things and making things easy to get at and fix/replace. Cheers |
MSD make a universal lead kit for LSx motors. It comes with a range of different boots and the LS1 coil boots and a crimp tool. I just ordered one from Summit as it will save me cutting up these good leads.

A bit more progress, feel like this ones a milestone, Engine and trans mounted in the chassis. The original inlet manifold is sitting on top to stop wasp from nesting in the inlets, i only seem to have his problem around engines, ...whipper snipper, mower, bikes etc etc, they must love hydrocarbons or something. I'm in discussions with Kinsler for a cross ram at the moment, see how we go, The trans has a Core Hurst TR6060 Shifter, Hurst components in a custom mount, nice piece of work. Also fitted clutch speed bleeder, home made 8x1.25mm slave fitting to -3AN, then flex brake line to 10mm concave fitting and 10mm Russel speed bleeder nipple. Brakequip made up the hose, and the Speed bleeder came from Russel components off the web. The pics are showing up for me, but this is the first time i've used photobucket.
I cant upload pics anymore to clubcobra, no buttons appear to select photos or upload. i just pasted the photobucket link any help on what should or shouldn't be in the link gratefully appreciated, add. i amended the links to just the info between the bracketed IMG quotes, let me know either way if this is working for all. It is good that the new boxes already have a shifter location in there, I did the MM mod.

Gee its been a long time since i posted some progress pics,
Saw Mando's comment on another post about the number of builds but the lack of progress posts on here, and i'm one of the guilty, so heres some progress pics. Firstly, Mounted the engine and gearbox in the chassis and since then some dress up as i've tinkered along making brackets for Oil Cooler, Canister, Brake and Fuel lines etc. At the moment, i'm playing with the manifold and dual quad EFI, trying to get a bit of a modern ol' school look. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ge_Medium_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ge_Medium_.JPG http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ge_Medium_.JPG Also mounted the brake and master cylinders so i could make up the clutch lines and playing around with a header modelling kit to see if i can get the cats inside the bay instead of underneath as there isnt much exhaust or tube area.
