Mike,
The lathe rpm is set to 925rpm and the stock was 3/4".
The tool tip is a 7deg relief, the pack has "non ferrous" on the label, i have a heap of "Ferrous" labelled tips as well, with a 4deg relief. (obviously for steel stock)
so this combination suits the 6061 stock i'm using.
I dont usually change the speed for diameter, but i probably should
My newer lathe is sitting on 625rpm, maybe need to speed this up for aluminuim.
What do you use ?

Liam, i have an e38 and harness that i got with the engine and trans, but i have been having discussions with Wolf EMS on what to do to comply with IM240.
They have been very helpful to date.
I haven' bought anything yet, but i am leaning their way.
I will be using all the stock HSV LS3 stuff (cats, MAP, Canister solonoid, injectors, o2 sensors etc.. except for throttle body,manifold and maf.
They don't seem overly concerned about meeting this if i keep the cam sane, and mines stock at this point.

Re: DBW, i have this unit from the original manifold, and i also have the matching pedal, so if i can come up with a neat mount at the back end i will try and go this way, otherwise i'll have to look at a cable.

The birdie was correct
I bought new 60lb injectors with my short engine in the LS1 format.
Schwanke will make them (or have them made) in any configuration you want for about $350 a set from memory.
I run progressive twin 1000cfm throttle bodies and found that it was really hard to control wheel spin until I fitted a progressive throttle linkage aswell. But if you run FBW you can dial in the progression how you want.

did you make the linkage rod between the two quads, or is something available off the shelf.
i was going to make mine from some rose joints with left and right threads for adjustment.

I bought mine from VPW.
You just need to measure what size you need.

I use 700 RPM a lot with aluminium on smaller sizes. I could run faster but the noise from the lathe gets a bit annoying. on a larger piece like a pulley I'll run about 400 RPM. Not saying those speeds are ideal, they are just what has worked for me and my lathe.

Hi all,
Some more progress pics and commentary.
Firstly, made up the dual quad throttle linkage from some rose joints and alluminium rod, the ball joints are Left and right thread, for easy adjustment, but probably only do this once and never again.


My son joined a "kickstarter" program 2 years ago for the development of a 3D printer, it uses laser light to cure a resin (Stereolithography) and has very fine resolution 25 micron (0.001 inches....1 thou). This is a lot finer resolution than the extrusion printers available.
He's right into systems engineering and currently doing year 12. He just won an Australian Student Top Design Award for his "Bionic Arm" he built last year as a year 11 student, its on display at Melbourne Museum......Proud Dad moment.
Backing the project results in a printer and resins which arrived last month.
Anyway, i want in on the fun and my first part was a mounting for the MAP sensor on the CR.
There is an 3/8" NPT port on the back of the Holley manifold which would normally be used for Brake booster or Vacuum accumulator etc which i wont be using.


I designed a mount that fits over the boss with a hole in it that would then be sandwhiched in place by a 3/8" NPT bung.
The bung has a 12mm hole bored through it for the map sensor to fit into, and is held in place by a bolt into a rivnut fitted to the mount.

I also printed up an oil cooler tube clamp to see how it would look.
I have been making my brackets from Aluminium but thought i'd see how it comes out.
The resin material has the properties of ABS plastic after curing.




I've also fitted the Radiator and Fuel Tank.
Both of these were made by Shaun Melish at Shauns Custom Alloy.
Shaun is great to deal with and his work is amazing, second to none.

At this stage, i'm now working from the front to back connecting up hoses and fittings, then onto chassis wiring and back onto making up the headers.

Dave, My son and I love looking at your car at the "Fest", and Gav's, Gregg's and other CR's, you can drive yours, sounds and goes great, and the pics with the Goodyears on it is awesome.
Gives me inspiration to keep pushing ahead on mine.
Cant wait till we have a CR revival......
We have at least 6 CR's on the go at the moment, all progressing at a good pace, (Ben, Phil, Brad, Dennis, Stuart, Me, Gregg's is finished).
By the way, in keeping with the CR theme you guys started, i'm going with matt body paint as well.
