Default Aussie Mike's machine shop

So my life has taken a bit of a turn. I took a redundancy at my job of 12 years. To be honest I'm not that upset about it. It was stressful with long hours and a lot of travel. I've been feeling a bit burned out for a while and it was time for a change. I've been in this industry for 27 years without a decent break (Always too busy to take long service leave etc).

So while I take some time off to enjoy myself, finish my Cobra and try to work out what my next move will be I figure I'll offer my machining, welding and fabricating services.

I've often got requests for parts and stuff that I've made but usually decline since I never had enough time to work on my own stuff with family and work pressures. Now I've got some extra time.

I've got a few jobs on the go at the moment. I've just finished off some CR bump steer kits for a couple of people and I'm doing a T56 mid shift conversion for another. I think I'll also soon be making some radial brake calliper mounts.

So if you need a T56 Mid shift conversion, active side pipes or what ever built drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.

Cheers

All the best with the transition Mike. Sounds like you're taking a really level headed approach to it. Are you resisting the urge to do a bit of FIFO work in the mines?

I look forward to seeing what kinds of Aussie Mike goodies make their way onto Cobras now that you have some time to dedicate towards it. Your billet shift knob on my old blue Cobra was a winner. Every time I changed gears, it was a pleasure to grip your knob...

Not sure what I will do. I know I don't want to be too far from my family. Part of me is waiting on the outcome of the federal election. I was one of the folks advising Malcolm Turnbul on his fibre to the node strategy for the NBN. I set up several technology demos for him on VDSL2 and FTTN installation. Post Election there may be more of a demand for someone who knows their way around this stuff.

Cheers

Mike,
I'm glad to hear the redundancy was on your terms. Unfortunately, often they aren't.
My only concern is that you'll be busier now than ever with your skill set and talents.

best wishes,

Hey Mike;
Whatever you turn your hand at, Im tipping you will it will be a success.
Also if you need some bits and pieces for your shop material wise, go and see boys (Paul/Rob or Anton) at Tooltime and go through the scrap and offcut bins. Although Im not there to look after you, it would still be worth an ask and may help out and Im sure they would be very reasonable. I can give them a heads up if that's something you wish to do.

Take it easy.

All the best for the future Mike, and may I make a suggestion?

Well done Mike, Turnbull is the only high ranking official with half a clue about what we really need for the NBN. Ex-senator Con(job)roy on the other hand... what a mess he left behind. Anyway, best we leave politics out of this forum.

Mike

Good luck with your new direction. It is always hard to make the decision to leave a long term position. Well done on making the move.

Now you are home I will call up.

Cheers

Bernie

I'd been working for ADTRAN for the last 12 years and even though I don't work for them any more I still like their gear. I worked pretty closely with engineering and they always provided me with interesting new prototype goodies to play with.

Cheers

The place is a bit of a mess at the moment. I've had a few busy days on the lathe and the mill so there is swarf all over the place. I don't think it'll ever look that clean again

Good luck Mike. I've been retired now for 12 years and truly am busier now than when I was working. After a few months away from it, you will find it hard to go back to the daily grind stone. I'm sure that you will scrape a good living in your machine shop doing what you love.

All the best mate,

Baz
