Another Pace427 heading to Vic
It's taken a while but I've finally decided and committed to a Pace427.
Chassis build has commenced, number #33. Eta July. For drivetrain I'm leaning towards a 'recovered' L98 with TR6060 and LSD from a VE series II Commodore. I'm not inclined to buy a wreck myself (no space and can't be confident about what I'm buying) so am looking at options of who can offer this service for me. Any suggestions? Preferably Melbourne. Anyway, now the shed is built and I've ordered the kit, I flamin' well can't wait! |
Well done Guy! What body colour and wheel diameter have you chosen? Are you planning on a traditional or hotrod style?
|
Thanks Craig. Dark blue, 15" halibrands, so more trad style.
Plan is to stick with gel coat initially, and maybe repaint (or even wrap!) in a few years if I get bored of the colour. |
Well done Guy. You need to change your signature now from "un-progress" :-)
I bought my engine/gearbox/ecu etc as a package from a guy doing cut and shuts in Sydney. Best thing about this option is you get all the driveline accessories and engine loom and ECU (not sure if the ECU and loom will work from the VE II though). Anyway looking at your JoinDate of 2002 you have been very patient. Good luck. We'll need a Shed run when it arrives. cheers Gregg |
Best of luck Guy

Well done Guye,
I did hear the rumour at the club meeting on Wednesday night and wondered when you were going to "come out" Great choice of car, there are quite a few Pace 427s heading down south. Cheers Russell |
Yeah Russell, couldn't get to the meet as I was in Newcastle this week.
Good point Gregg, sig fixed. I've contacted one provider in Sydney so far re: the engine and they'll provide the lot, including ECU and loom, and Craig at AB says that's the go as it will all just work :-) Already been done this way for two other AP cars so far apparently. |
Re: these engines from wreckers, I'm told if I get the full 'package' from the one vehicle it will all just work. I've noticed references on other threads about the ECU being reprogrammed to exclude airbags and the like. Is this necessary? I'm guessing the ECU simply won't let you start the car if it detects a fault with airbags. But does it tell the difference of faulty and simply not there?
|
Guy, the challenge is that the "full package" normally in the donor car consists of multiple computers. e.g. Engine ECU, Body Control Modue, ABS, blah blah. They all like to talk to each other and if one is missing things don't work.
e.g. the VATS (security interlock etc) is a key one that has to be removed so the Engine computer will start the engine. There's also a couple of other things as well. Some people put all of the computers in there, which is a lot of additional wiring etc (in my opinion only). Some people get an older ECU that is "friendlier" to re-program too - if the engine suits, that is of course. Anyway, chat to a couple of people at the next club meet and I am sure you'll get your answers. Or some others will chime in here too I am sure. Nice day in Melb today - washed off the ShelbyFest gunk and going for cruise. Cheers Gregg |
Guy
Well done. Look forward to seeing another AP in Victoria.. |
Hi all.
I've had a few suggestions for contacts for some who can help supply me with the drivetrain (probably an L98 and TR6060 from a series 2 VE), which is great thanks. So far they're all in Sydney, which is OK, but surely there is someone in Melbourne would be able to help me out too? We have our fair share of hoons providing wrecking opportunities and those seeking upgrades surely? :) |
Hey Guye,
How on earth did I miss this? All the best with your AP build... Well done man! Here's a quick search. http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item...d=301166646740 Any idea on what the eta is for your build? Seems to be a growing queue of people lining up for AP cars. They are seemingly in pretty high demand. |
Thanks Dimis. Eta is still July. Just the chassis and body and box of comprehensive bits. Not getting even a roller. Putting it together myself (probs with heaps of help from my great cobra club mates!).
Thanks for the ebay link. As mentioned though I am really after someone who will do the finding and removing of the drivetrain for me, who is local preferably. At least Melbourne-based. Anyone know or suggest anyone? |

Hi Guye, The car you saw at the Melbourne show was mine. You wont need to paint it as the gel coat, as you saw in the show, was only buffed, with a shammy. As yet it has only been polished once when the body came out of the moulds and was trimmed. It has been a long hall since that show as Craig has been extremely busy getting cars out to clients, as well you know, but when you get to work on it you will see how different these cars are to the rest. Craig has done a mighty job in the development of the aluminum structure and the welding is fantastic. My car is getting towards being finished now and hopefully it will be done by the time the Cobra Nationals come around this year. But don't count on it as there is still mountains of work to do. It will be going in to get the wiring harness installed in the next couple of weeks.
Enjoy the build. |
