Got the heat shields done today, just ran out of time to get the last one's fixing holes drilled hence the tape

What are you going to do with the brake and clutch lines? Reroute and rebend them, or cut a hole in the middle of the shield? |
Guye, in the first pics you can see the front line before the shield went on, then in the later pics the front line is gone but the rear line is routed behind the shield, you can see it pop out the bottom.
I am re-running the front line to go straight out and around the inner guard. The clutch line is flexible braided and will come out at 90 degrees and curve around, probably utilising one of the nutserts on the inner shield to hold a p-clip in place. |

Looks like you had a good team helping out. I bet it was a fun day. You have definitely got me thinking about heat shields now. Michael, the T56 is a big lump of a gearbox. It's about 900mm long and about 50KG from memory. It makes you grunt when lifting one onto the bench. Cheers |

Wow I thought I had a thousand jobs to do before the engine went in....now it feels like a million!
Got a few more things done yesterday; The engine loom is now in and plugged in everywhere Made the battery cables to length and terminated to the battery master kill switch Starter motor is on Finished and fitted the main fuel line to the engine next up; finishing lines from oil cooler thermostat back to the engine starting to run coolant lines finishing fuel lines to/from tank and pumps |
Wow, I never thought they would go in or come out as a single unit, I had always assumed the box would have to be unbolted first, slid back and engine pulled.

boxhead, there is maybe room to shuffle the tranny back about 60mm, and about 75mm in front of the engine so you could split them in car - it would be ugly though, on a hoist with a tranny jack it might be easy enough, as Mike says these T-56 are not one to be easily chucked about.
Going in as one unit when the balancer cleared the body at the front there was a good couple of inches clearance in the tunnel, and we could have gone for more angle. Pretty easy really, don't know what I was worried about! |
It was a good effort Ben and Co. I don't reckon you could easily do it in one shot in a square tube chassis. The chassis cross member behind the trans is going to be the problem. The back of the box is jammed right into the V and half the extension housing hangs over the top.
