Default Wheels. What are people buying and their experiences

So I'm heading down the new shoe road for the daytona. What are people's experiences with rims people have bought over the last few years? Trigo, team 3, American racing. Dragway in oz but anyone else? Knock ones (legal?) or 5 nut?
And what's the negative of running 5 x 120.65 vs 5 x 120? The USA guys seem to struggle with Holden bolt patterns?

I used image wheels in the UK. expensive but awesome quality and they can make any size offset. I am very happy with them.

Mixing 120/120.65 usually ends in tears (sheared studs). The only guys I see trying it these days are p platers in their fully sik VN Commodores.

What diameter/width are you thinking of? Classic or modern? Rushforth make some pretty tasty big diameter stuff for the pro-touring crowd. For the traditional stuff, Compomotive or selling their 15" wheels exclusively to Hawk in the UK.

My Cobra was registered in Qld on Vintage Wheels Halibrand knock off wheels. Very happy with them and the service.

For a street wheel I want a classic old school look. Hard to achieve with big harrop brakes but I have a plan. I just need to find the right supplier and dimensional combo.

I got my wheels from vintage wheels, Bob is very knowledgeable and he got the back spacing dead on the first time. Highly recommend their product, I did go with the 15" knock off wheels.

I put American Racing on the Daytona - bolt on.

Specs are:
Wheels 18 X 9.5 all round
150 mm Backspace
5 X 120 PCD

No problems with the PCD at all

Default Daytona rims

Spooky,

I used 15" Locally built rims for rego and using the Avon race tyres, then I

Went with 17" Vintage Wheels and tyres to be 2 seconds slower

Vintage wheels are great, I think I need better tyres........

Thanks for everyones replies. Yes now is not a great time to be looking to buy wheels with the AUD hitting a record low for the last few years.

I did have some quoted to be by an Aussie Manufacturer but they were $1625.00 per rim..... kinda forces me to look OS.

Vintage seem to have the wheel I want (FA18) moreso than Team 111 but I'd have to convert to a knock adaptor which I'm not sure as yet as to their legality etc etc.

I've got Vintage, Bob will also do a 5 stud at whatever PCD you need.
I went with the adapter for the jag hubs and he also supplied Nitto's with them, shipped to Perth.

A Trip to Vintage Wheels

Mine's sporting 15" magnesium Halibrands. Knock offs passed rego in NSW ok. They look the part but whatever you do don't buy magnesium, unless you want to spend every second weekend polishing them.

Tengu, I'll save you the grief of maintaining those mag wheels. Let me take them off your hands...!

I bought the new style Dragway "Cobra 10 spoke", here are a couple of pics. These centres are cut from a solid billet, 50mm front and a whopping 85mm thick billet for the rear. Mine are 17x8 and 17x10. It's a beautiful wheel, they will do any spacing you want that will fit on the spun rim. The centres are shrunk and then welded into the rim.

These are a soft-look rim profile. Pricey wheels, but very nice.

I like the old-school 5-spoke look but I wanted 17" wheels to take advantage of greater tire selection. I went with Vintage Wheel Works in LA. They built the wheels to my spec.'s for a very good price.

Tengu...I'm not sure but after you polish the magnesium wheels maybe coat them with POR-15 Glisten Its designed to stick to polished surfaces.
I'm not sure if the Magnesium would oxidise under the coating..but if not your polishing problem is solved.

Craig, they would looks great with those billboards of yours.

Thanks Rob, I'm up for any suggestions. The best thing so far has been CorrosionX aviation, which slows oxidisation down somewhat but gives the wheels a mild satin finish instead of a nice polished surface. I'll look into the POR-15 Glisten. I just have to make sure it comes off easily if it doesn't work.

I use 17's with 555 Nitto's. Is that the tire you used on your 17's?

Ok so I have considered a variety of wheels and manufacturers and kinda like these....what are people thoughts on a Daytona?? I'm thinking sticking with the gold but also adding a trispoke spinner? I know I've been down this GOLD wheeled road before LOL
