Those twin cam heads actually make the Lexus quite a big motor. That's the price you pay for DOHC. Pretty good performer for it's 4.0 litre capacity though.

Have a look at how much room there is around the LS1 in my car. You can actually change the plugs without skinning your knuckles. The LS1 is an amazingly compact engine for it's 5.7 litre 346 cube capacity. What's more people are punching them out to 450 cubes now.

Cheers

But Mike,

Can you fit an esky in the engine bay or even a small bbq for those picnic runs? At least you wouldn't need gas to cook the snags.

The only problem I find is working on the damn engine, what with leaning over the gloss work it puts a different perspective on how to handle your tools - no jokes please.

Looking at Dennis Bedford's first DRB, the bonnet tilt idea seems a lot more practical, albeit doesn't seem to look as good.

Maybe Craig's is the way to go - drop a jet engine in and simply unbolt / bolt all the panels around it.

You can fit 2 eskys between the LS1 and the radiator, there is acres of room in there.

Once it's painted I think I'll have to invest in a couple of those heavy vinyl fender protectors that some mechanics use.

Cheers

Peter - don't mention jet engines Cobras around the Vics. They were getting some ideas a month or two back.... The day I had to change the timing cover on my 351W in the previous Cobra, I vowed and declared that the new car would have a lift-off front. While the dzus fasteners might look a little out of place, that is the only drawback. The front doesn't shake or squeak, and I can play with my tools to my hearts content, knowing that I can't scratch any paint....

S400 - that's the idea - get a big hole, and fill it..... You've done well

Craig

Lightbulb How?

How did you adapt the 6speed to the lexus as i have got to fit mine now after the weekend when supra 5 speed turned into a 4 speed at morgan park.

i am surprised that it lasted this long . it was just great to have it last thru the nationals.

Regards Scott
