windscreen assy
Gday everyone 
i have reached a stage in my build where i need a windscreen and was wondering where you guys have purchased one from inc windwings and sunvisors

Jess, got mine from python in South Melb, can't compare the quality or price to others. I got a lot of my things from George, I know he can be a bit intense but I don't mine him. I thinkt that his was a similar price to Ian's.

I had noticed a guy in Qld selling them on Ebay at a price that looks a little cheaper then anyone else. He syas he makes them and can supply wind wing\visors as well. Have no idea on the quality or who he is though, and Im not sure if Id like to be the guniea pig

I guy in Lillydale made mine and has made quite alot. Mine is stamped No.89. His qulaity is 1st class and a very nice guy also to deal with and owns a cobra. He made the complete set for me back in 2004 I think for about $1400 all up. PM me if you want his details.

The best Windscreens are made in England.
As far as I know Snake Bite only sell made in England windscreens.
English screens have the side stanchions that curve over the top of the screen by 40mm on each side, as per original AC Cobra.
Make sure screen comes with:
side stanchions(side posts)
tapped mounting holes for sunvisors & wind wings
slot in top for locating soft-top windscreen mounting hardware.
rubber molding on bottom edge

When I was buying sunvisors, Don told me there is a difference between English and Australian screens - the sunvisor mount holes - 2 for Oz, 4 for UK.

Yep, that's right. OZ screens have 1 screw each side, Uk have 2 screws on each side for Sun Visors.
Also Windwings have different mounting. UK mounting holes are 5mm further apart than Oz.
Don is the expert when it comes to this stuff. Also knows which glass fits which screen etc etc. |

hi all
I put the advert in ebay, and would like to clarify that I have been making cobra frames now for 5 years but only for trade supply,
so decided to try to sell some direct.
most of my frames now go overseas but if there is anyone that is in the brisbane area that would be interested to inspect one of my frames they are welcome and if not to far away i will bring it to them so they can vouch for the quality.
they come with posts, rubber and slot at top for mounting soft-top
tapped for sunvisors and correct distance of locating holes for wind-wings.
I can custom build one to suit the cowling shape if wanted as there can be slight differences from different manufacturers.
otherwise i follow pretty much the contour of the windscreen, which is an australian made , "Protector" windscreen
I do this as a fulltime job so am dependant on repeat business and stand by my product.

Trevman..good to see you on here. Welcome to the group.
Actually, I believe I have one of your screens...even tho I purchased it from Don.
the reason I say that is that when I purchased my screen from Don it did not follow the cowling shape as I would like and he had it modified locally....maybe by you.
Had I known that some-one was local at the time I'd would have taken a pattern of the RMC cowl shape as it still does not follow the shape as I would like.
To make it fit well, I had to cut channels at both lower corners and that I am not happy with.
I'd like to further modify the screen so that it fits without those channels. Don't get me wrong...I'm more than happy with the quality....it is an RMC issue as this is my second screen and neither of them fitted well.
I'm more than happy to pay to have it modified....seems both ends of the lower frame need to flatten out a little more so I don't need to recess my cowling at the corners.

I got my windscreen from Python, they have them made up.
Because they are low volume it can take a while - I first enquired in November and Python took delivery of the next batch in the following March.
The wait didn't worry me and I'm happy to support local suppliers because - I feel - that you'll need them one day and it would be a shame if they were gone. Also find Geaorge very helpful and certainly committed to his cars/customers.
But, if you need the screen now my advice would be - if you see one Grab It.
As with Rebel the bottom of the screen has more of an arch than the car body meaning an inconsistent gap - plan is to fill it with flexible sealant (low priority)
Anyway - good luck. It certainly changes the look of the car once you get the screen fitted

I thought there was a rubber flap on the bottom of the screen that was supposed to seal the gap between the screen and the body?
Being that the bottom of the screen is curved more than the body does laying it back further improve the gap situation on the RMC?

You are right Mike.....but... 
The arc of the screen matches the cobra cowl shape pretty well except that it narrows ( the gap that is) as you get to the outside of the screen inside the posts.
In other words...if you place the screen on the car and incline it backwards to the correct rake, it hinges on each outside corner of the bottom frame.
Because of this one ends up with about 1" gap under the screen when it is at the correct angle. Don suggested some folks put a groove in each corner just inside the side posts so that frame sits down lower into the cowl but that seems like a fudge to me.

Apart from the differences 400TT mentioned earlier..I believe a major shortcoming of the aussie screens is the lack of a screw holding that 40mm roll over the top.
My old RMC screen had 4 screws in the side and one on the top of the screen where the 40mm roll over finishes.
There is bu$$a all holding these screens on and that top one I believe is veryyyy important.
