Yeah, Maybe you are right Uncle Phil, but.....
At this stage I'm taking the easy route to registration.
I've still got two full ford engines and spare 302 and 351 blocks sitting in my shed. And...they're gonna stay there....just in case.
I figure that IF there is any relief or exemptions to register at some time in the future...then I've still got the engines and maybe can palm this chevy thingy off to some-one.
Gawd, you have got cheeky since we invited you up.

The Truth
Rebel1,
If I was building a new kit, I would put in the Chev, they are very well priced for the performance you get. They fit nice and they are light. To me a good choice.
I suppose as we get older going fast is not a priority , so that is another plus for the Chev

And...what did you pull up here? 11.77 @ over 120mph?
Looky here for an L71 in a holden ute:
http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthre...&highlight=L76
I wonder what that would be for a lighter cobra.

Same set-up in a Cobra would run around 10.8 @ high 120's mph.

As Mike said check the ADR regulations in your state. Chances of being able to use a 5 litre motor are slim as they no longer meet emission standards (that's why Ford dont use them anymore).
I have the 5 litre Xr8 motor but if I was building again I would probably look at the LS1 or the Lexus V8. I suggest you also contact the kit manufactureur to see what they think would fit and check out what capacity motor the chasis is approved for.

Hmmm
Looks good,
What would the ute weigh???
Looks like a good effort,
The car seams pretty well setup , slicks, diff ratio etc.
If you guys were fish, you would be in the pan sizzling.
I do enjoy the engine discussion.
Phil

Yep it does seem well set up uncle Phil..... for a street car.
You know the old saying " Nuffin worse than a reformed smoker or drinker"
That's me.

Looks like Phil has stepped into your old shoes Les. We'll have to start giving him stick about having a Ford motor.
Cheers

Mike, I thought we were gonna give him a hard time when he came up. ( I didn't make it to meet him sadly)
But he sure can pedal that thing of his so we'll have to wait till next time.

It's ALL in the set-up, (well most of it anyway). My Ute runs 11.82 @ 113 in unopened form, the motor hasn't been touched with the exception of new valve springs, (that's allowed in the "rules")... Race weight (incl. driver) would be around 1640 kgs for mine, and the ute in question would be well over 1700 kgs.....
Take 400 or 500 kgs off these weights and you'll be in Cobra territory. This is the sole reason I'm building one of these things!!!

I'm glad you explained that Plums because I've just been chatting to some-one where I mentioned the weight factor but mostly the importance of set up.
Beyond a certain point these cobras just have troubles getting it to the ground, and making smoke does not make you faster.
Cheers

Plums,
As long as you can convert that power through to the tarmac. Traction is a major issue with these billy karts

That's never going to happen even if the rules change. You're a Dark Sider now. Remember what Darth Vader says...
Cheers
