You could angle the rear stay toward the side, and fitting a strong bracket on the outer edge of the chassis rail. This would minimise boot interferance.

I have not got around to fitting my rear stay and always worry if I end up on my lid sliding backward, the unsupported hoop would bend toward me.

I had another look last night and think the boot space issue is not as big a problem as first thought.

I've got a bit of time to think about it as painting is scheduled for winter months.

I am leaning towards single 3 leg hoop at present.

just for another opinion, I have 2 hoops. I like the look of both, but have also been upside down and I do race mine in events with a navigator in the passenger seat. easy decision...

I'm going with two on my next car. Any compromise to the look is worth it.

I've already flipped one over with a passenger and we both came out very lucky. Not tempting fate again. Plus I would like a track instructor to ride with me and they will not unless you have two hoops.

If you're concerned about "boot" space, why not use a forward-braced roll bar like on the FIA cars?

I have a ERA 289 FIA, and the forward brace does not obstruct my driving or impede on the space of the passenger.

Another question! what are they usually made of? Mike yours looks like aluminium, what wall thickness would it be, and how much thinner could it be if done in stainless, or chrome plated steel, I heard of a hoop made from a "U" exhaust bend in 2", not much strength there I'd reckon!

Yep, Mine's aluminum. It's 60mm OD and about 5 or 6mm wall thickness so it's plenty strong.

I think most of the steel or stainless ones are about 2.5 to 3mm wall.

According to CAMS the 3 point single hoop only compliant for speed events (Sprints etc) with no passengers. For races the minimum is a 1/2 cage (4 point with a diagonal cross brace).

Tubing needs to be steel and 1 5/8" x 2.5mm wall or 2" x 2mm wall.

I plan to make a steel half cage for mine for track days. I'd like to be able to take a passenger for a spin. The alloy bar is for the road.
