I plan on buying proxies, but they probably won't be enough. We will see, just curious as to what modifications needed to be done for 335s. I have no traction 1st or 2nd. Even a roll in second, and it will spin them. Laterally they wash out easy as well.
If you have 17s then you have an earlier car and may not have the body changes the factory made over the years to get more clearance in the rear fenders. I believe the change was made when going from RT2 to RT3 in the 900 build number range.

The Eagle F1s are most of your traction issue.

I'd also like to see what engine and tires you're running. I have a Roush 427R and don't have much problems hooking with 305s in the rear. I'm running Toyo R888s.

I'm running Nitto 555R 335's on my BDR. I'm not sure what, if anything, was done by the guys at Vintage to make it work, but it looks nasty from the back (in a good way).

OP, I haven't looked into posting pics on here but feel free to check out my pics under x96535 on Instagram.

Your cobra is sick. I really love what Backdraft is doing in regards to paint and trim scheme. Mine is much more conservative in design.

There was a time the factory 18s had a rear backspacing that allowed the 335s to work. That time is no longer... but his car has that setup.

Sweet looking car. Are you going supercharged or turbocharged?

Regarding your Vette, most modified cars I've read about that are going mid 8's in the 1/4 are running in the 190's or higher in the half mile. Is there a reason the mph is where it's at on the Vette?

Thanks for the compliment. I'm going the supercharged route.

As for the 1/2 mile speed, traction was NON-existent. 1st and 2nd were useless. I'd start hooking in 3rd. I do think the vette can go 200 mph in the 1/2. Point in fact, on the 181 mph run, I had a 56.36 mph increase between 1/4 and 1/2 mile speeds. Here are the stats from that run:

60 ft - 2.538
1/4 ET - 12.797
1/4 MPH - 124.79
1/2 ET - 18.595
1/2 MPH - 181.15

There are few events coming up, so we shall see.

John

Looks great. I'm curious how tight the fitment will be once the hood shuts. That blower seems to sit high but maybe it's just how it looks like in the pic.

VMS is making progress with what they can while we wait for the custom half shafts from DriveShaftShop. Also, working on marrying the engine to the transmission to make sure it all likes each other and the engine sits low enough for the hood to clear the Whipplecharger.

I'd say this is not too far off on the horizon....

Welcome to another episode Mayhem...

I almost can't believe it, but seeing is believing - that dang engine and supercharger ARE going to fit under the hood. Miracles, they do happen

Cockpit is shaping up too - I'm really digging the dash layout that Jay suggested. In addition to the typical gauges, I had Jay add boost and fuel pressure gauges, which in my experience provide important information for forced induction engines.

While not as sexy as the engine and dash, functional side mirrors are still important, and blacked out they just look 'right'.

New member here, but just wanted to compliment you on your beautiful build. It looks like it's going to be a beast. Just curious why you went with the standard throttle body over the 132mm eliptical one. This seems like you're going to be after big numbers and the standard TB is leaving a lot of ponies on the table.

Welcome to the club, Ragtop! Thanks for the nice words. We decided to do a direct front feed air bridge instead of the larger elliptical, side twisting set up. To accomplish that we need to go the standard round TB for space purposes. The engine will be much cleaner looking in my opinion.

Front

Side

At the power levels I think VMS will get my car to, the loss of some hp/tq shouldn't be that big of a deal. Plus, without a stand along EMS that has true traction and slip control, I suspect the I'll have traction issues with what the smaller round TB will provide. Only time will tell.

Do you own/plan on owning a Cobra? If so, would love to hear about it.

John

p.s. are you on the Corvette forums at all? Your user name seems familiar.

Default Pre-delivery purchases...

While progress on the build is happening, there isn't much photographic updates to provide yet. So, how does one fill in that void...buy stuff in anticipation of the delivery...

No, I've never been on the corvette forums. I lurk a little on the Mustang boards.
I resurrected my name from the Mustangworld days in the 90's. I had a Paxton on my 95 vert. That was back when if you put 300hp to the ground you were a street player. Oh, have times changed! Been getting the itch to get back into the game. Thinking about getting a Whipple on a Mustang GT for awhile. Just recently, I realized a Cobra might be a better option because either would be a weekend/fair weather car.

The whipple looks gorgeous in your configuration. Congrats on a well researched and planned build!

Default Just need a little room

To make great something that is good, you must tear it down and build it back up....

Because I insisted on making this one of "those" builds, I knew there would be areas into the unknown we'd go (at least for me). I was correct. Loving what will be the symmetrical appearance of the engine bay when the required tanks etc. are installed with the front mount air intake, an issue came up about clearance. VMS reworked the engine mounts and all other sorts of modifications to make the intrusion as minimal as possible. They did it. This is going to be stealth but menacing when done. Well done VMS!

Now, hood is off to the magicians at the paint shop and VMS will turn now to getting the engine running. Things are getting interesting!

Default The build continues...

While the paint shop is working their magic on the modified hood, VMS is moving ahead with the build..

Now that's a cool (pun intended) grill. VMS's custom work at its finest

Custom fluid tanks that will straddle the straight air inlet pipe...
