95 FI 5.0 engine wiring harness
Ok, winter is here, and I am putting away my 57 Chevy and am going to really start moving on my cobra. I have a brand new 95 5.0 Fuel Injected crate engine from Ford. It has all the injectors, but I need a wiring harness for it plus computer. What is the best way to get this. I saw that Painless has a wiring harness, but is almost $500, no computer or needed sensers. That's anything but painless. I can't see paying something like $800~$1200 for harness, computer, sensors when all done.
How hard is it to modify one of these harnesses off a 95 Mustang?
I am not the worls best electrician mind you. Are there better places to go after this wiring harness???
Thanks....

I've always used the aftermarket harness. You can get them from Ford SVO, Street and performance, Painless, and a few other places. I know the stock harness can be modified to fit but I have never done it. The aftermarket harness eliminates some of the sensors such as the mass air flow, and a few others. This keeps the engine bay cleaner looking. I know DV has done quite a few of these so maybe he has a better source for less expensive alternatives.

I don't think the aftermarket setups remove the mass air, as it's essential if you're using a mass air computer etc.
Easiest way is most likely the ford setup. Altho expensive.
Cheapest way would most likely to be purchasing an 89-93 harness/computer etc and cutting it down. It's what most FFR people do.
You can purchase everything needed usually from someone who is going carb instead of FI but using a donor.
Also it may depend on what you have already as far as mass air sensor, and a computer.
I believe holley has a conversion kit out now that includes everything but the computer.
Harnesses usually pop up on Ebay from time to time too.
I would suggest not using a 94/95 harness as the computer for those years had less aggressive timing. (plus, but not sure, they may have had coil on wire ignition)
Look on cobraforum, there's some info on it.

cobraforum.com is essentially a FFR site. FFR's use predominantly late Mustang components and 5.0 EFI motors. When it comes to late Ford EFI issues, these guys eat, sleep, and breathe the stuff, might have a spare harness or two lying around, and describe for you how to install it. FFR's are different animals. I would have opted for the 393 crate motor to stuff in a CR.

Bite the bullitt!
I know it sucks, but it is the best way to go. We have done Painless, modified an OEM, and used SVO---I'm still going the Painless route and I agree - it aint PANLESS!
But, it works and will take you all of 15 minutes to wire the motor up!

OK, it looks like I might have to bite the bullet here and get the painless (painless to hook up maybe, but not in the wallet) wireing harness. OK I know that I will need the computer...
What else will I need.
The engine is the crate engine they offered with the complete fuel injection, distributer, fuel rails, injectors and injector harness.
What else is there.... computer I know, do I need the mass air senser, other sensers, relays????
I figure a bit more in cash is better than staning around and scratching my @ss wondering how to modify an oem harness.
Thanks....

Unless you're running a speed density system (which I don't think you would be) You'd need a mass air sensor (calibrated for your injectors) a computer (A9L most likely, it's the 5 speed 5.0 computer)
Then you'd need the other sensors, such as O2 sensors.

Yes i have a 98 mustang V6 and i am wanting to put a 4.6L SOHC engine into it and i can't seem to find any wiring harnesses for the swap from painless. Do they make one? I really need some help on this on because my car is about to go into the shop in the next 3 weeks and me and my team want to get the swap done inside of a weeks time. These are the parts that i have: 4.6L SOHC engine, automatic tranny, radiator, overflow bottle, condencer, hydro-booster, fuel pump, suspension, rear end, engine harness, computer (from a 96' GT). So what do you guys think? Can it be done? And do you think you all can help me find a wiring harness that can make the swap go a little smoother. Thanks
