Has anyone installed air vents?

I was wondering if anyone had put in air vents that would blow fresh air in from the side of the footwells.

I'm not going to use a heater or A/C.

For a CR, are there any recommendations on what works, or even if it is worthwhile to do it?

I recall several discussions on the installation of air vents over the last couple of months. Do a search on "air vents" and I think you will find plenty of answers and a source for your parts.

You may also want to take a look at the ERA web site. They use vents that pick the air up at the brake cooling vent and route it into the top of the foot box. I must admit that at first this idea of taking valuable brake cooling air away from the brakes did offend my sensibilities.......That was until I considered the value of cooling the brake foot .

I did a search on "air vents classic roadster" with no matches.
Just "air vents" turns up a lot of info that is very helpful.

Looks like a lot of info is out there on this subject for the FFR that might apply.

But I am still interested on what folks have done for the CR. There is not much room on the top of the pass. footbox if the battery is there. Battery could go in the trunk though. Side footbox access is limited as well.

Proximity of header to footbox was a concern.

First, ceramic coat headers inside & out. This does wonders keeping the heat inside the exhaust, and out of your footwell.

Second, use double face aluminum padding instead of the non-aluminum faced jute padding. Was about $40/roll from Summit, and one roll was all needed for dash-to-firewall. Used single face aluminum for rest of padding. $20/roll Trak or Pep Boys. Lay carpet over padding.

Now you shouldn't need any air vents because the footbox doesn't get hot, or even warm.

If this has been your experience, it would be an easier solution.

I was concerned because of all the talk on footbox heat. so I was planning ahead.

If there are ways to just not generate the heat in the first place, that makes a cleaner engine compartment as well.

JD.. if you follow Jacks solution or even just half of it, you will not have a heat problem in either footwell! Even our V-10's, that run 1190 degrees right at the corner of the footwell doesn't really effect the interior.

My 2-cents is... put in a Vintage heater/defroster. you will find it more than usefull!
DV...one more thing, put the battery in the trunk, right rear corner works great!

Jdean, Ooh, neat! GM (actually Saginaw, Ford uses 'em too) PS pump to Ford PS rack hose & ends that looks like it was made for an automobile.

Mine looks like it was made for a fork lift, not so surprisingly. Fork lift hydraulics shop made it.

One of these days, someone is going to put a CAT Power on the sides of one of these things, and have us all guessing, eh.

I will definitely follow the "lower the heat" plan.

I don't know if a heater/defroster is necessary here in Texas though. Am I underestimating this?

DV - One more thought...

If another key to reducing heat is keeping what is in the engine compartment out of the cockpit, I found something that solves it.

It is some amazing material to really permanently seal anything from the outside (air, water, dirt, dust, whatever) from ever getting inside.

It is a multi-layer aluminum with rubberized asphalt backing. Reminds me of aluminum-backed Dynamat, but WAY more pliable and much more sticking power. I don't think it would ever come off of what you stick it to, and it will stick to anything, with a nice looking aluminum side up.

It is going over every crack and cranny I can find where panels meet, in the firewall area, under the car, under the trunk or whatever.

It may not get that cold in Texas, but it does rain. You'll get tired of mopping you're windshield with a towel with one hand, steering with one hand, and shifting with one hand. Not enough hands. It gets chilly enough for a heater/defroster. Might be a tight squeeze with a 460, but AC might fit also. Vintage Air is in your neck of the woods. See what they think.

Not to mention if I am doing all that and talking on my cell phone and sipping coffee.

On second thought, i try not to do any of those things while driving, and I sure won't be doing it in the Cobra.

Regarding fresh air vents I installed 2 marine 4 inch bilge pumps and ran alum ducting from the brake vent to the footbox. They work very nice
