Touching up the frame

I am in the process of putting together a kit.. The frame has a couple areas that got scraped and has a little bit of surface rust...
My buddy suggested that I use truck bed liner and go over the entire frame to give it a durable chip/scratch resistant finish.
Have any of you done this???
Does it sound like a good idea???
I know the truck liner will kill the smooth finish, but how noticable do you think it will be????

Snake, I've seen a couple of frames where the guys have used undercoating or trunk paint. On most of the car it doesn't matter but when you open the hood I think it distracts from the car. My personal opinion is to leave the gloss finish on the areas you can see.

Here's another option. Remove the surface rust as best as you can. Washing with a Brillo pad works. Then get a rattle can of Rust-Oleum gloss black appliance epoxy enamel. Virtually every hardwaqre store carries this. Finish is hard as nails, nearly as good as powder coating.

As Ken noted, I've used POR15. Works fine, gives a poor looking finish when you brush it on (grainy looking finish). I've heard that thinning and spraying POR15 gives a much better finish.

Rattle can epoxy works well and is as easy to get as the local hardware store. My vote is for the spray paint.
