I normally use the Edelbrock Performer RPM manifold. That is the tallest manifold I can get under the hood. The large oval air cleaner will need to be modified to fit under the scoop. It sits a little too far forward to clear the scoop. I modify them by cutting out the base carb opening and moving it about 2" back. The smaller oval air cleaner will fit ok.

I have a 302 in my Classic Roadster, with a Weiand high rise intake. The large Cobra oval air cleaner will not fit.

I took a 4" handheld grinder to mine. Get some disks, 60 or 80 grit and take a little off the flared base each time. Took me about 1 1/2 hours to get it where I wanted it. Thats not all grinding..... putting it on and taking it off eats up a lot of time. Be sure to where safety glasses because bits of aluminum can get caught on the disk and then be thrown off later. Its definetly worth the aggravation and if you screw up and take off too much you can buy just the base plate from mustangsunlimited.com.
Good luck!

Good question! What about making the base air tight now, too? I tried to used this air cleaner, also, and it hits the front of the scoop. My mechanic told me the only way was to lower the engine! Forget it! I'm using the 427 Stellings one now. Looks and works great!

Cobranda sells stamped steel bases with no hole or flange for the carb. This allows you to put the hole for the carb wherever you want. This worked great for positioning the base. Unfortunately their cast Cobra lid would still not fit under my hood with the air cleaner I needed to get enough air to the motor.
So I used another base to make the lid. Kind of Plain Jane, But I like the minimalist look.
Gets plenty of air now!
Using AED 750 with no choke or horn.
A picture of the airfilter is in my gallery. Hope that helps.

The one I modify is the steel base. Once you have the carb hole moved I just tack weld it back it place. Basically I cut out the carb hole in a rectangle with the hole closest to one end then just turn it around and weld it back. Then I use 1/4" rod and bend it to fit the top of the air cleaner.
