Lightbulb Daytona Coupes... Which one?

First of all, hello everyone!

I'm new to the forums. My name is Simon, and I live in Belgium, Europe.
As you may know, US cars are extremely rare in Europe, so it's hard to find Daytona Coupes for sale, even though there are some around, mostly in Italy and Germany.

My question is, who makes replica's, and what's the best one? I've heard of Superformance (expensive), Factory Five Racing. Are there others? What are the differences?

As it's not allowed to build kit cars in Belgium, i'd be buying a completed car. Any suggestions as to what engine I should get? Roush? Ford Racing?

And what gearbox?

I don't want to start a war between SPF and FFR owners, so please let me know why you chose your own car, and what you'd get if money was out of the equation...

I couldn't find any recent threads on the subject, so I hope this isn't inappropriate.

Really keen to learn as much as possible on the subject !

Shell Valley Custom Wheels in Platte Center Nebraska builds Daytona Coupes there number is1-888-246-0900 or there e-mail is www.shellvalley.com they can build a car the way you want and help with shipping.....tell them i sent you...

You can check Cobra Country but I think all the Coupes sold at this time.

Shelby himself seems poised to introduce a coupe. Shelby Daytona Coupe seems to be the moniker if cost is off the table. Worth a look.

No if you want the top of the heap call Kirkham Motorsports and get an aluminum bodied coupe.

Thanks for all the input everyone...
At this point, i'm not buying yet, i'll first take some time to get a feel of what's out there.

Could anyone shed any light into the differences of the different kits out there?

The basic difference are this:
Factory Five: User assembled not factory assembled. Lots of options available to customize to user preference. Build quality will vary based on builder. Reasonable price.
Superformance: Factory assembled with consistant quality, sold as a painted roller minus engine and transmission. Costs much more, endorsed by Shelby if that matters to you.
Shell Valley: User assembled, not that many out there, quality will vary by builder. Reasonable price.
Lesher Motorsports: Mid range price, user assembled.... Not many out there.
Kirkham Motorsports: Work of art, highest price, very few of any out there.

Shelby has taken over the production of the Daytona Coupe, so Superformance will no longer offer them. The CSX 9000 will be offered in aluminum and fiberglass. I think $90K for the fiberglass and $190K (maybe $195K) for the aluminum bodied Daytona Coupe.

$100,000 for an aluminum body? I'm sure there are some knuckleheads out there that would pay it. But not many.

Goedemiddag or Bonjour SimonSays...sorry I don't know how to speak Flemish. My name is Rick and I own SPC #039, a Daytona Coupe that was built in 2004. As I am NOT a mechanic by any means, I bought the car complete. It has a Roush 427R and Tremec T56, 6 speed transmission.

Having owned it now for a few years and with about 5,500 miles on it, I must say that it really is quite a ride. The fit and finish are first rate. It accelerates hard and corners as if it's on rails. It has been amazingly reliable and has only required the type of maintenance that one would expect to perform on any vehicle.

I can't comment on the other makes that have been mentioned in the thread as I haven't had the opportunity to ride or in fact even view any. The Coupes are indeed rare to see. I have not seen any in the New York area where I live. Anybody out there???

I have recently considered selling the car but of course the economic times are difficult now and I am not sure it would sell. My theory is that I have had a great time driving and enjoying the car and so the sale would not be driven by profit making or even recouping the initial investment.

You can also order a custom built Factory Five racing Daytona Coupe from Levy Racing. They will build it to the specs (engine etc) that you mutually agree on. I believe they have a limited number they will build in a year, but they have a very good reputation and have built quite a few cobras for track use and street use. Superformance is a real nice car and they show up every now and then for sale used - and are normally in outstanding condition with low mileage.

A hundred effing thousand for a production aluminum body? Gee, I hope Unca Shelby at least signs it, for that much.

I could probably get a custom shop to turn out a spotless body for half that, starting with a pile of aluminum sheet. But gosh, it wouldn't be REAL, would it?

ERA is considering a coupe, I understand. I'll wait.

Hey Mr. Knock,

I have a couple of pics but they are attached to a Microsoft Office Outlook email. I don't know how to post them? I seem to be technologically challenged...duh.

Anyway, the car is Wimbledon white with blue stripes and was the cover car for Kit Car Mag. Apr. 2005.

It's been my impression so far that Superformance is my best bet, even though prices are higher. The Shelby endorsement would make it hold its value somewhat better in the long run (I hope )

Thanks for your info Rick. Flemish and Dutch are just about the same, so thanks for the effort

What colour scheme do you have on yours?
I'm also selling my own car at the moment, and I agree, the market is slow these days...

Yikes... Wasn't one of the CSX7000's for sale for 250K ? Would be a better bet...
Anyway, that's beyond budget...

If 90K for the fiberglass one includes the engine and transmission (complete car), it's a sensible deal though...

I guess I should be saying goeden avond. My car is wimbledon white with blue stripes. It was on the cover of Kit Car Mag. Apr. 2005. I'm not sure if the Shelby endorsement holds any power over on this side of the ocean. Mr. Shelby has an interesting reputation to say the least. Perhaps his name has more cache over there. There are those who love him and those who hate him: he is quite a self-marketing individual.
