Tommy, did Chip put you up to this so he could get your number 66 ? Sorry to hear you can't come. I wish your relative a speedy recovery. Feel free to join us if you figure out a way to sneak off. I'm happy to fetch you from the airport or help any other way. My house is handicaped accessable (no spyderboy, not your kind of handicap), and we have a bit of extra room.
Life can be full of problems sometimes, and they can really get you down if you let them. For instance, The town of Hilton Head put a note on my door that the road, my road, would be closed next week for repaving, putting a bit of a damper on the "car show" aspect of my big cook out. I'm working on this, and am having some success.
Also, the noise limit at the track is devastating to group 3. We've been told that the 104 limit will be strictly enforced. This means that I have to come up with a new schedule with less run time for group 3 and not during baby nap times , causing some group 3 guys to cancel.
I feel like Cobra Dan with the Silver Springs deal.
Thank goodness Gene Felton is still coming, and so is Robert Tornello ( my heros in auto racing), but Gene will eventually be too loud and Robert does not see the point in bringing out his Lola at 112 db with mufflers. He's bringing a Porsche now. I've run the exhaust out the right side of the cup car with mufflers and am hoping for the best, and had some super trapps made for the Lola that "should" work, if the engine does not reject the back pressure.
Cobras should be fine.If not, lift at the sound station.
There are still about 50 nice people coming to have a good time and it will eventually work out just fine.
We'll miss your being there Tommy and thanks for letting me know.

Johan
How can we be prepared in case we exceed the 104 db limit? I think my car will pass as it is a pretty stock 5.0 but the sidepipes are just glasspacks so it is pretty loud. I also cannot trust myself to remember to lift at the sound station as I will be too busy trying to stay out of everyone's way.

P.S. How far is it to you place from the track and should we leave the Cars there and go in a tow vehicle or do you think the road repaving will be delayed untill after July 4th.

Thanks for all you are doing.

Maybe we can polish your valve stems or something to repay you.

Answer The gt40 without mufflers is about 104, if you exceed that, you will just have to remember to lift at the sound station, which is on the main straight at the highest speed part of the track, so you might want to lift there anyway.

Answer My place is about an hour in traffic, sometimes a bit less. It is about 45 miles. The car show portion of the event is a prototype for future events meant to appease the waxer types, plus it gives us eye candy to enjoy looking at while we drink beers and gab. The important thing is to just show up, it does not really matter if you bring your car or not, as we'll see it for the next 2 days anyway. I just thought it would be fun, and the kids would get a kick out of seeing some cars up close (after the pipes have cooled). I'm working on getting the paving schedule changed, and collecting heavy military equipment has helped my chances .

I wish a girl had said that.

Engineer Ed 06-24-2003 05:39 AM

I'm not waxing anything!!!
That includes valve stems or any other sick idea's you might think of.... :D

I plan on dropping off my trailer at the track before the trip to Hilton Head.
I will have had enough hours of towing and will be glad to get the weight off my tow vehicles back.
Since the track is fairly close to the highway we will be travelling, it wont take long to drop it off.

I cant wait, less then a week to go.
Car is ready, tow vehicle has had fluids changed.... time to pack!

One week from now we'll be ON THE TRACK !
DISCOVERY Motorsports has signed on as a vendor for the event meaning that if you get to the track and there is anything you need in the way of helmets, gloves, stopwatches, arm restraints, tape, etc. , they will have it for you. This should eliminate some errands for some of us anyway.
Mike Iodice has had to cancel at the last minute due to a loved ones medical condition, so we will miss him and wish him the best.

Engineer Ed 06-24-2003 08:35 AM

Mike was in our convoy so I got the message this morning.
Too bad, we hope his mother has a quick recovery.

I'm glad the vendor will be present, as I am in the need of some tape for protection against rocks.

See you at your place Monday.

Ed

Agingracefully 06-24-2003 09:17 AM

Johan--

Can't wait! Usual pre-event snafus here, decided to replace the Turbo's head gasket (its a new car to me and I don't want a blown gasket to wreck the event for us ) Im installing the race suspension in the car and it should be done Monday. Ill bring the old car down for the POC event and have the new car brought down Monday. Logistics, logistice, logistics!

This will be a total blast. My son Erik will be hanging around trying to mooch a ride in the gt-40, he'll be the one with his tougue dragging on the ground.

This time next week............:) cb

aumoore 06-24-2003 05:12 PM

Mike had health problems with his mother? I hope everything will be ok. Tommy had to pull out as well due to health issues within his family. Lets keep these guys and their families in our prayers.

If they cannot attend do we have any openings for others who may have wanted to come but did not make the cut?

I will probably only occupy the track for a few laps before I break a nail and have to come in for emergancy medical attention from the Hooters girls...or was that the Golden Girls.

Mike & Tommy you will be missed and I will run a polish victory lap in your memory if I win.

God Bless guys.

ToyCollector 06-24-2003 05:18 PM

John,

I picked up name tags and some nice 1 inch neon orange and green stickers. They had blue and red but they were smaller. Let me know if you need me to exchange, but I thought bigger was better. Same thing your wife says ;)

Johan 06-25-2003 05:38 AM

Ruble, what is a polish victory lap ? Sounds like post coital oral appeasment or something similar I heard being discussed in hushed tones at a party at Don Crace's place.
We have openings due to cancellations, however at this point I am all done with the head count crap, the car number issue, the ordering food fiasco, and the logistic can of worms. The whole deal is still going to be a big disorganized mess, but at least I have the temporary feeling of peace associated with a false sense of "pre-event chore completion".
The cars are at the track already and All I have to do is arrive and drive. Did I say what track we are going to ?
Oooops,
Now TC wants me to identify the yellow group with the green stickers, the blue group with the orange stickers, and the red group with name tags. Fine. I will completely re-do the schedule.
TC your punishment is that you are now in group 3

Seriously, is there anyone that would like to come that does not have a car to drive , that lives in Atlanta ? Chill, is your car ready ? I have a 65gt349.6 Mustang that needs to hitch hike on a trailer down there to Savannah, but my plate is already full.

aumoore 06-25-2003 06:53 AM

Polish Victory Lap was made famious by the late Alan Kulwicki. Basically take your average winning NASCAR driver and turn him around so he is making all right turns so the crowd can see his smiling face. It is actually pretty hard to get the Average Nascar driver to make a right turn. 8 out of 10 can't do it.

P.S. This Polish Victory Lap must be done after the race not during the race or very bad things will happen.

Chiperb 06-25-2003 10:25 AM

Ron of DISCOVERY Motorsports will be there as the vendor. Just bought a bunch of stuff from him last Sat. Is a driver (280 Z) and a Delta aircraft mechanic. He knows racing. And his track prices are the same as his catalogue prices: Good and low! This after paying $8.50 for a throttle return spring from another vendor that you could buy away from the track for $2. Found him to be the best deal available and has a large on-hand stock/inventory that he carries to the race in one of his trailers. Had my shopping list and he had everything.

This time nest week.........cb

Chiperb 06-26-2003 10:52 AM

We will make this work-details will fall into place. Motorsports is the focus: All other items are just support services. We will all work together to make it the best WWW EVER! Can't wait!

Agingracefully 06-26-2003 11:26 AM

Gents (and Ladies)

I concur with CB; we wll all pitch in to make this an event to remember. Last year's WW was a highpoint for me and was much less ambitious from our kind host's part.

Johan:
My son Erik and I will be down tomorrow night at the track and we can do any advance chores you need us to handle. While I will have to come back to Charleston for work on Monday, I can leave Erik if necessary.

The weather looks like it will be fine and with all that automotive eye-candy this event should be a real hoot.

TC-

Will that Kirkham make an appearance? Sure do envy you! Looks like we will finally get a chance to do the dueling 944 thing--I'm looking for some pointers other than "maybe if you lost 80 or 90 lbs...."

See you all there, Rick

Chiperb 06-26-2003 07:49 PM

FYI all: I will be leaving Monday 9 am fm Atlanta, arriving at the track at about 12:30, dropping car and trailer and heading to Hoilday Inn express on Hilton Head Island with check in at 4pm. Am available to do what is necessary (Will work for laps). Johan: I wll email you my cell phone number. cb

aumoore 06-26-2003 08:08 PM

I may be the long distance winner this time as I have about 450 miles to go to get there. I live in Pace, FL which is a suburb of Pensacola and in case you flunked geography Pensacola is almost in Mississippi. I wish I could be leaving at 9 and getting there just past noon but I only have a 4.6L in my tow vehicle so I will not be getting any speeding tickets on the way. I will get on the road at about 5:00 which is 4:00 for us Central time Floridians.

Oh well at least I live near some of the most beautiful beaches in Florida so do not fell sorry for me.

I promise to make all the laps this time.

John

Do we have to bring anything like beer, food, suntan oil for the hooters girls or is that for Spiderman?

Spayde you are scaring me as your reputation precedes you.

A few days with a bunch of wild a crazy car guys near the beach sounds like mucho fun.

Engineer Ed 06-27-2003 05:20 AM

Ruble,
We are still planning on meeting you at the GA welcome center.
Tom and I are leaving Tampa at 5:30. We only have 380 miles to cover..... :D
That should put us at the welcome center at around 11:00
Since Mike Iodice and Larry are not comming, it looks like just the three of us.
Jim is coming on his own and we will meet him at the hotel.

I'll be giving you a call via cell at about 10:30 Mon morning.
Drive safe.

Johan, we thank you for putting this together.
I'm so stoked.

John,

Schedules are printed and I added passing rules on the bottom as a reminder to all.

aumoore 06-27-2003 05:11 PM

Passing?

I was planning on doing my impression of the average person in Florida over 65. Drive in the left lane with my left turn signal on.

Are we running clockwise or counter clockwise or a combo of both(not at the same time though)
