John, I also agree with the guys. You do not need to feed us, we can easily head out on the main drag in Pooler and grab something.

How about,
I don't yet know what we're eating ! The food plans are still in the developmental stages.
The goals I am trying to accomplish with the meals are based on comraderie, fellowship, story telling sessions, bench racing etc., as well as getting a good meal in a convenient location all within the logistic framework of the event based on knowledge presently in my posession.
I just don't want to emerge from the infernal confines of a Grand National Stockcar and then go stand over a hot grill cooking a bunch of chicken, only to find out that everybody snuck off to Arby's because they hate chicken. If you like chicken, we're all set. Boy are we set.
That said,an air conditioned eatery might just be the ticket, so there is plenty of room for suggestions and I'll be working on it. Remember that downtown Savannah is beautiful and has several great places to eat, but we'll be hot and worn out at the end of a day at the track,and perhaps there will be another night better suited for a trip to River Street ( I am responding to an email here that proposed "Race Gruppe 3" take the whole bunch to Le Petite Aubergine or what ever it was....-NOT)
This is one of the reasons that I have not sent invitations/schedules, the other is that there are still several that have not e-mailed an address.

If you guys want some GREAT boiled shrimp and COLD beer head south on I-95 first exit south of I-16 on the right next to the Harley Dealer - SHELL HOUSE. They have a fun atmosphere (grubby ok) and can seat a large group.

I have no problem with bringing my own food, helping cook someone elses food or anything else that would help with the event.

Shade will probably feel like air conditioning after getting out of the car.

John: We could just all order pizzas or subs tuesday night after the first track day: We SHOULD be hot, tired, sweaty and happy. Eat some, lie a lot and go to bed early for the next day! Or we could form a comittee, elect a chairman, vote.......NOT!!!

Does anyone know where I can see a copy of the track layout for Roebling Road where the dimensions (e.g., corner radii) are readable? All the sites I've found on the web are not readable.

I BELIEVE THAT ONE OF THE CHAPTERS OF THE PCA PUBLISHED A MAP WITH GOOD, READABLE DIMENSIONS A FEW MONTHS AGO, I'LL LOOK FOR IT AND PASS THE SITE ALONG IF I FIND IT. THIS IS A GOOD TRACK FOR COBRAS IN THAT IT DOESNT PUNISH YOU ON THE BRAKING EXCEPT IN TWO SPOTS. HARD ON LEFT HAND TIRES, SO BE PREPARED TO ROTATE THEM HALF-WAY THROUGH THE SESSION.

I DID AN EVENT THERE THIS PAST MONDAY AND HAD A BLAST. THE TRACK IS IN EXCELLENT SHAPE AND THEY HAVE IMPROVED THE INFIELD. IT SHOULD BE A LOT OF FUN FOR THE WW.

We were discussing times a RR and the guy with the off road Cobra said you ran a 1:42:6 but that you were on race rubber. CJ and DC thought that was a bit quick for you but thay said it was possible with a clear track **)

I have no honor yet at Roebling, other than being shown the black flag furled at an HSR event, and spinning my rod bearings at the first session of a PCA DE way back when ;) I have never run a Cobra on that track...yet, so I am certain, a certain someone, was speaking through the fog of hangover, or causing trouble! Both of those causals at the same time are highly probable :D

Following is advise from Roger Davis (Club Cranky) on running track events. I agree with most of it and did not think he would mind if I copied it here




"If you are just getting started in running Open Track with your Cobra here are some things you should know,have and do.
1. go over car and tighten every nut and bolt.
2.replace your brake fluid with high temp brake fluid. If you have synthetic fluid , flush it out completely. Don't argue about this. We are right. synthetic is for street/show cars.
3.You must have at the minimum a rollbar that is at least 2" over the top of your head with helmet on. A full width rollbar is preferred if you want any in car istruction. The learning curve is much longer if you do lead follow type instructions.
4.Install new brake pads if more than 1/2 worn out.Adjust brakes for full pedal.
5.Repack front wheel bearings.
6.Install two throttle return springs.
7.Install radiator overflow catch can.
8.Retorque all lug nuts. If you have pin drives, safety wire the spinner.
9.Make sure radiator hoses are in good condition
10.Repair any oil leaks, nobody wants to spin out in your oil.
11.Make sure battery is secure (no bungies) and terminals are covered.
12.Make sure brake lights are working.
13.Make sure you have at least a four point harness(5 is preffered) in good condition.
14. Have a good full face helmet at least a SA 95 .
15. Have arm restraints in any Open top car.
16.Have cotton long sleeve shirt and full leg pants(no shorts). A fireproof driving suit is preffered.
17.Make sure your gas cap seals in case of rollover. Some of the Cobra fliptops do not seal properly. A temp fix is a tennis ball under the cap on top of filler pipe. Safety wire cap.
18. Most important rule for first time Cobra Drivers.Leave Cobra superiority attitude at home. You will quickley learn that all that HP you have under the hood is no substitute for driving experience. You will be passed by more experienced drivers in cars with 1/4 the HP you have. Once you get some track experience you can go back and pass those guys but for the first time out you just want to get the feel for the track and you want to learn your car.
Forget everything you have ever read on the internet about the Cobras being the fastest car in the world and don't get too upset when the Miata of VW goes blowing by you into the corners.
I have seen way too many guys with Cobras and other high powered cars who were going to break the track record the first time out only to set the record for fastest to ride back on the rolloff.
Club Cranky members, Joe Rodomista (McFIA) and Don Durner(McFEz)in Cobras will be passing just about everybody on the track but remember these guys have many years experience and at one time they too were beginners.
So get those cars ready and sign up for the next event and get started on having more fun in your car than you can imagine.

I have two senarios to run by you.

My engine builder is suggesting to wait on plans to run until we dyno the motor late next week - so the Cobra is in question. However, may I run my Bimmer as a backup if neccessary? Is it possible to run only on July 2? Sorry to be such a pain but I would love to run on the track in the beginner group. Thanks!

Group 1 is getting a bit on the full side, but Tuesday will probably see some attrition. What kind of BMW is it? If it is track ready, I don't see a problem, there should be a couple of other BMW's there. The code word is Willis to get in the gate.
