Windshield Top Attachment

What I need to see is covered by material. It appears my rails are too short (part that goes over the windshield, as the latch would only get 1 screw into the rail instead of 2. That's what I was trying to ask, is 1 enough, or do I need either a longer latch or move the attachment point up. At this point, I will probably fabricate a longer attachment so I can use the existing screw holes.
Actually, can you measure the distance (this may be a PITA) from the end of the windshield channel to the screw holes on the stationary latch bracket? That way I can compare measurements and see if I'm hallucinating or if the channels are too short....
