Default ERA Transmission Spacer

Bob,

MMmmmm .... looks like have the wrong X-mission mount or need a spacer, or both.... The driveshaft universal taps the emergency brake assembly....also. What do you think? Mooney #2115 FIA

I believe I used the "republic mount".

Try running the handbrake cable outside of the driveshaft hoop (like the 427 kit). That should give you the clearance you need, and it will still clear the inside of the drive tunnel when you have it in place.

I had the same issue upon changing to the ERA style rear end on my 427. I shimmed the tranny mount about 3/16".

Good luck!

Default Angle way off from trans to rearend

Mike Sears sell a digial level gauge for about 30.00 buck. You need to add 1/4" to 1/2" spacer between the mount and bottom of the trans to get the driveshaft parallel. Hand brake cable doesn't run inside the drive shaft loop unless Bob P at ERA has changed the routing of it. You need to have the rearend setup first to get a little angle of this pinion up and then have a trans tilt down to offset the angles. Want "0" if possible. ERA sets the motor off set in the frame 1" to the right, don't worry about this. Rick L.

Mike,

Shim the transmission mount so that the centerline of the transmission output is 3.5" above the plane of the chassis X member. You shouldn't have the driveshaft parallel to the transmission axis. That will cause premature wear in the driveshaft bearings because they end up not spreading the load over more area when they "work".

With the ERA rear suspension, the pinion angle should be correct without any "adjusting". Just install shims between the bottom mount and the rear crossmember so that the bottom holes line up correctly.

Do you have the emergency brake balance assembly? (page 79 of the latest manual) It is installed under the driveshaft safety hoop. It keeps all the cables safely out of the way of the driveshaft.

Yes, I have the ERA Handbrake Assembly. I'll correct the tail shaft height with shims this weekend. I'm really happy that I do not need to change the mount out....I think I would be removing the transmission to do that.....yuck ! Thanks Bob ...and all.
